tossing glitter

My fiance had the idea of having guests toss glitter into the air after our ceremony, instead of rice or bubbles. At first I thought this was a crazy idea, but am warming up to it. The pictures would be stunning and who wouldn't want to be a little sparkly!

My experience with glitter is that it is impossible to get out of hair and clothes.  I've used glitter and the literally found it in my hair/clothing for weeks.  The idea is nice in theory, but maybe you could find something else that's shiny that people could throw?  I know my FI wouldn't be thrilled about having glitter in his hair.

I'm with the other ppl. don't do it.
I'm not sure when your wedding is, but if in the fall season, have leaves. I've seen tons of cute pics with leaves being used.
We are doing sparklers- our wedding is July 2nd.

I've also seen pics with rose petals being used, please do anything other than glitter for yours & your guests sake :P

During my senior year of high school, in concert band, we performed this New Orleans-themed piece, that ended with literally everybody in the band throwing a little baggie of glitter/confetti towards the audience (They were far enough back that there wasn't a real risk of hitting anybody in the eye).  It looked really cool to anybody that watched it.

However.

Being a flute player, I was front row-center, with about 50 people behind me hurling glitter and confetti in the direction of the back of my head. I am somebody who washes and brushes my hair every single night. I swear to God, I was still finding glitter in my brush over a week later.

I think it would look cool ... but I also think that the novelty would wear off quickly (Especially if some does get into your eyes or ears), and that you'd end up saying to yourselves "Why did we think this was a good idea?"

Yes. Just talking about glitter being thrown scares me. All I can think of is it getting in my eyes. I think it'd be pretty and all but what a pain in the butt. Plus, the eyes!

So sorry.  I suppose everyone should have written, "Wonderful idea.  Because it's your special day nobody is going to care that they will be digging glitter out of places glitter should never be.  The venue won't care that they won't be able to clean up the mess and the reception hall won't care that glitter is going to be all over their site because it will be all over you, the WP and the guests.  Who cares if a glob of it gets a little slick and great aunt Betty falls and fractures her hip.  Glitter in the eyes?  Hell, everyone should know to bring eye wash to a wedding.  All that matters is that your pictures look great."

If I was renting a buliding out to someone, glitter would DEF. be on the "NO" list.

Who wouldn't want to get a little sparkly? Me and probably everyone else.

It takes FOREVER to get it off your skin, out of your hair, and off clothing, not to mention you seem to carry it around with you everywhere and it'll somehow cling to the floors, countertops, inside your car and everywhere else.  Even a little glitter seems to go a LONG way.

I wrapped a gift this morning with wrapping paper that has glitter on it.  It didn't have to get tossed at me, but I am still COVERED with the stuff, and it will probably be two or three washings easily before it's off my clothes.

Just being a bride does not make every one of your ideas perfect and special and flawless.  The more you focus on logistics and working out the kinks, the happier you and your guests will be.  Would you rather find out about the numerous downsides of a bad idea in time to come up with something else, or after it's made your wedding infamous?

FIRST ASK your venue what they allow. I get you're trying to be unique, but at the cost of making yourself uncomfortable or getting glitter all over your dress and hair and tracking it all over the venue, which will not make them very happy.

Nobody was trying to pee in your Cheerios here, they just wanted you to understand that something that sounds great in theory might not be so great in practice.

Personally, I would have rather been told by Knotties (Or anybody for that matter) that some idea I had was terrible and just completely avoided using it, instead of being told "Oh, it's great. Do what you want, it's totally YOUR SPECIAL DAY!!!" .... and then find out  6 months after the wedding that my friends and family all hated it/thought it was stupid, but kept quiet beforehand to avoid hurting my feelings.

Nobody wants to think anybody is going to trash talk their wedding, but the harsh reality is, if you do something that your guests don't like, they're going to talk bad  about it ... and after a "safe" amount of time, there's a good chance of it getting back to you.

 Would you rather be told to not do it by strangers now ... or at next Christmas hear all of your families' horror stories about the weeks they spent finding glitter all over the house?

The Christmas card my mom sent me had some glitter on the front - 4 days later, and there are still random glitter specs all over me. Darn you, Mom, darn you!

Seriously?  You must have past resentment from an AE or another post, because the responses you received were FAR from giving attitude or being embarrassing.  And you did get constructive criticism, people said it was a bad idea and suggested other ideas like leaves.  Holy over dramatic.

I deleted several that were over the top and unnecessary, not helpful just embarrassing. That's why it may look like I'm being over dramatic, because the mean-hearted messages are gone. I do appreciate the honest comments that were tasteful.

I don't understand what you mean, because you aren't able to delete any comments that you didn't write.  Unless you are the mod of the board, which you are not.  Maybe you blocked them from your own sight, but we can still read all the posts made unless the actual poster deleted them.  So yes you are still considered over dramatic.

Fine.  Bomb your guests with glitter (see, you're not the only one who can be overdramatic).  Yours will be the wedding they use as a warning to future brides as to what not to do.

There is no heated debate here.  You are being told by a chorus of people that this is a bad idea.

Wow-show me one post~just ONE~that didn't offer solid reasons why this was a bad idea or was giving you attitude.

As for embarrassment:  would you rather be a bit embarrassed now (although I seriously don't get how people can be embarrassed by posts on an anonymous message board) or when guests are p!ssed at your wedding because your "sparkly" idea was a colossal fail?

And I'll give you the benefit of the doubt because you're new, but as the other ladies have said:  you can't have deleted any posts.  Only mods can do that.  So we know you made that up.

And frankly, if you thought this advice was rough, then I'd suggest you stick to a local board or weddingwire.  There people will validate every idea you have, even if it's bad.  It won't be good advice, but it will be validation.  It doesn't appear that you have the wherewithall to post on an international board.

OP - have you thought about tossing rose petals instead?  They also look really nice in pictures and brush right off of you.  Plus if you use real petals they're bio-degradable so your venue probably wouldn't have an issue, especially if you were tossing them outside.
