in lieu of father daughter dance?

i posted before that i'm not sure if i'm inviting my father to the wedding. regardless of if i do or not - there won't be a father-daughter dance. anyone have any ideas for what to do instead? i mean, do i dance with my mother? my grandfathers? my brother? any ideas?

Re: in lieu of father daughter dance?

  • You could dance with someone else that you're close to like your mom or brother, or you could just skip it entirely.  You don't have to replace it with anything.

  • I would skip it.  It would only draw attention to your relationship with your father if you dance with someone else.  You want the focus to be on the positive that day.
  • I'm in a similar situation where I'm on the fence as to whether he'll be invited. But I'm not doing a father-daughter dance with him and I'm not substituting it with anything. I've also never seen it done at other weddings I have been to so I know that most guests won't miss it if it's not there.
  • im doing a dedication song to my mother
  • I'm in a similar situation and I am super close with my mom so she will be walking me down the aisle and we will be doing a combined mother/daughter and mother/son dance.
  • My fiance is going to want to dance with his mom at some point... does anyone have any ideas for how I could incorporate that into another "dance" instead of making it its own portion?
  • hmm yeah, maybe a "mother-child" dance for both my fiance and i...
  • I'm in EXACTLY the same boat! Not inviting father, and I know FI's mom will want M/S dance. We're thinking of doing an uptempo family dance where we, our parents, siblings and neices/nephews dance. I felt uncomfortable dancing w/ my mom, and even more uncomfortable dancing w/ his dad (didn't want to draw attention to estranged father thing). We're HOPING this will placate his mom, and they can dance informally later. Good luck! I feel for you!
