Color Ideas for a Nov/Dec 2010 Wedding

My finance is in the army that is why right now I have the date at November or December...not ideal for me, but that's when it has to happen. The Army now usually wears dress blues (not green yay) for weddings and such. We were thinking like a navy blue with gold/yellow and then ivory for our colors. Now, I was trying to stay away from the whole red, white and blue thing, but would these colors even be good in November or December? The thought of red with the gold/yellow and ivory had also crossed my mind. Thoughts are appreciated! :)

Re: Color Ideas for a Nov/Dec 2010 Wedding

  • I have a friend who is getting married around that time and her FI is also in the army. She wants to do navy and yellow as her colors, so I think those would work really well. I wouldn't do red, even though red roses are perfect for winter weddings. I don't know that I would do ivory with yellow, though. But that's just me. One way you can see if you like the colors together is go to a paint store and get paint samples. You can cut them out and put them next to each other to see if they go well together.
  • Navy and cream sounds nice.  If you didn't want to do red, but wanted to stay in that family - you could do a nice burgundy or cranberry with ivory or cream.

  • I would look at the dress blues as a neutral color and chose what you want. I do like navy with gold, it looks very nice and rich for the winter.
  • Haha I so should have looked at your name and I would have known.
  • haha silly Joelle. Thanks all for the advice!
  • I wanted a summer wedding, but due to FI's work schedule (he is gone all summer) we are getting married next New Year's Eve.  I am very excited about it now!  I tried to ignore what everyone said about colors - I like pale colors, and people were saying to use red, green, etc.We ended up deciding on black, champagne and ivory.  Good luck! I'm sure it'll be beautiful no matter what you decide!
  • A military uniform is considered neutral, so you don't need to base your colors around his uniform if you don't want to. That being said, any color scheme will work for any time of year. I think the only exception might be a red and green color scheme outside of Christmas (but you could even play with shades to make it non-Christmasy if you wanted, like lime and fuschia/cherry red). Your color scheme sounds nice. I'd pick navy & gold over red and gold/yellow, personally, but that's personal preference. If you want a twist on the red, white & blue color scheme ... consider aqua with cherry red. That would've been my second choice. Very fresh and whimsical.
