Chair Covers??

My wedding is Oct 4th, 2009 so less than 2 months away. My wedding and reception is all in one place at a golf club. But We did not know that the chair covers were extra from what we signed for in the contract. So we found out it is an extra $1,000 for chair covers? I am not sure if it is worth it or not. I truly think it makes a difference, and the chairs could be worse, so they are not too bad, but I don't know what do you think? The covers will be white with a satin navy blue tie backs.

Re: Chair Covers??

  • If you are going to get chair covers at all, I'd say to buy them and resell afterward.  LinenTableCloth.com has covers for $2.89 each and sashes for as low as 75 cents each, plus they have a sale on right now so you'll get a 10% discount at checkout.  Unless your guest list is huge, you won't spend $1,000 that way, plus you can get some of your money back by reselling them later. However, unless the chairs are pretty grotty, I wouldn't bother with chair covers.  Guests typically aren't that concerned with what the chairs look like.
  • I would skip them unless the chairs are a mess. That's $1K you could put towards food/liquor, your honeymoon or your savings fund. People won't notice the chairs or the covers, and the room will look a lot different once everyone is sitting down.

  • Are these chairs used regularly at your golf club?  I doubt they could be that bad and probably not worth the $1,000.Your call though as I haven't seen them
  • I don't know what the chairs look like uncovered, but I can say that $1,000 for chair covers is a LOT.  I would seriously consider not using them.

  • $1000 for the chair covers?!?!?!?! That sounds like complete madness to me.  Only brides notice these things. IMO I would never EVER bow to such extortion, venues really do take the biscuit when it comes to ripping off brides & grooms.No-one is going to notice if you don't have them.  Noone is going to leave your wedding thinking "I would have had a much better time if I'd had a bow on the back of my chair!"  But if you must you could buy a roll of tulle, ribbon or organza and make bows yourself if you have your heart set on it, or speak to the manager and try and negotiate them for free, do not accept this ridiculous price!
  • Our venue has bright red chairs which clash with the rest of our wedding colors so we are renting chair covers. We are using Connie Duglin linens and were quoted $3.50 each. How many guests are you having? At Connie Duglin prices you would need to have just about 285 chairs to be at $1000. I imagine your guest list is smaller than that so I would call them, or BBJ Linens for a quote before committing to anything.
  • Worth is something that only you can determine. We don't know your budget or your priorities so it's something that only you and your FI can really decide. With that said, everyone is commenting on how your guests won't notice. Maybe they won't but YOU will when you look back at your photos for years to come. I agree w/pp that you should get a couple other quotes for chair covers since $1K sounds extremely high. We used BBJLinen.com for all of our linen and they were great. Local rental companies may be better since they can put the chair covers on/take them off for you (typically, if you don't get the chair covers through your venue, they won't put them on the chairs or will charge you a fee to do so). Good luck!
  • I would not buy the covers you can rent them for around 3.50 installed. Why hassle with having to do the installation and resale. The chair covers add so much to the room, you dont need much decoration with them.
  • I don't know your budget or what your opinions on them are. But I like chair covers, there is something that makes the room look better, especially if you are spending money on linens for the tables. My quote is $1000 for 225 chairs AND ties (so taupe champagne covers and chocolate brown ties) if that helps you gauge the expense.

  • I thought the extra fee was insane. We were luck enough to have the event coordinator throw them in for free for us. Instead, we're purchasing sashes for the chairs to go over the covers. See if you can talk to the event coordinator to work them into the contract somehow.

  • I would love to get my own chair covers but I was told that we don't have a choice that we have to use the ones they have, which is not cool. We invited a little over 200 and are expecting to have 175 guests.

  • chair covers look great in my opinion... but are definitely something to cut in a budget situation...... everything is relative to that particular room and your own budget...
