banquet tables

I want to use rectangular tables side by side instead of round tables lining three sides of the reception hall. I'm just curious why at wedding receptions, are rounds always used? Can you fit more people in smaller spaces with the rounds or rectangular? I don't really care about centerpieces and like the idea of a family thanksgiving like meal. Are there any downsides to using the rect tables that I haven't thought of yet? Thanks for your help!

Re: banquet tables

  • I like round tables because I feel like I can really talk to and see everyone at the table equally well. That's why I would choose round; the wedding party will probably also sit at a round table for my wedding because I like that.
  • rounds allow all to be equally able to converse rectangles teh people at the edge do not get included in all the conversations
  • Round tables are the most conducive to conversation because everyone at the table can talk to each other fairly easily. With a rectangular table, the guests can really only talk to the people sitting on either side or directly across from them. And it sucks to be the people on the ends because they're really isolated from the rest of the group.
  • I think rounds are easier for everyone to talk and also just look nicer. I was at a wedding where they used rectangular tables and it kinda reminded me of sitting in a school cafeteria. You can only talk to the people next to you and across from you and just seems more awkward.
