Any game ideas???

I got married on July 4 and my moms 2 sisters kidnapped me and my hubby had to get $250 to get me back. My cousin is getting married and his FI is looking for something similar. She thought about the garter auction, but her FI doesn't want to do it. I was just wonder if anybody had any other good ideas I could give her.

  • She could sit on a street corner with an overturned hat in front of her.

  • Kidnapped? What? Does this story end with someone in jail?
  • That sounds tacky and sounds like you are asking wedding guests for money? Maybe I'm missing something here.
  • really??  That does not sound like too much fun.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

  • I've heard of this once before and thought it was equally strange. Why?
  • You could have the WP dress as cheerleaders and shake cans at the entrance to the reception.Or you could have a car wash in the parking lot during the reception. You could have children dressed like girl scouts selling cookies table to table. You could have a 50/50 raffle.Oh wait:  I thought you wanted a fund-raiser, not a wedding reception. Please don't do anything that makes your guests pay more than they've already spent to attend your wedding.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • I am so confused by this post!!! Someone kidnapped you and then someone had to pay money?!?! This doesn't sound normal.
  • I saw this a lot when I was a child. My parents are first gen Americans so I went to a lot of ethnic weddings as a kid. "Kidnapping" either the bride or groom (usually the bride) is a reception tradition in certain cultures (Russian, Ukrainian, maybe other Eastern European cultures, maybe Greek Orthodox too). It's fun if a large number of guests know the tradition, but can raise offend guests who aren't familiar with it (like the Dollar Dance).
  • i saw someone auction off the garter, it took forever and we, and a bunch of other people, left because they didn't know when to say die.......that was after the dollar dance and a kiddos scavenger hunt (which was for money....)
