Reception and Cermony in same room

Hi Everyone I just wanted to get your opinion of what you think about this idea.  My FI and I are looking at this place that would have the ceremony in the same room as the reception and the guests would all sit at there tables for dinner during the ceremony then get up for the cocktail hour then sit back down for dinner.  What do you think about this idea?  I have never been to a wedding like this so cant really picture.  We really do like this venue we just arent sure about this.  Please give your opinion! Thanks for your help in advance :)

"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • I am doing that, and I've been to a wedding where it has been done.  I love it.  As a guest, I love not having to drive from one location to another, wait an hour for the bride and groom to drive around doing pictures, etc.  Way easier. As a bride, I'm loving the money I've saving by not having to put decorations in a church, or pay fee for the church. Some people put extra chairs up front for "special people" during the ceremony, like parents.  That seemed like too much of a hassle to me and I didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings by not giving them a special seat.  So everyone is sitting at the dinner tables, even our parents.  We plan to have the ceremony then recess out and do pictures on the grounds of the hall.  While we're doing that, there will be a cocktail hour (or maybe 1/2 hour).  Then we'll be announced back in for the reception part.I say go for it!
  • Our wedding is at a country club and that's exactly what we're doing.
  • I like your idea - it will probably work great. We had both in the same room (it was in the great room at a B&B).  For the ceremony the chairs were set up in rows with a center aisle.  After the ceremony we asked everyone to join us on the terraced patio for a group photo.  The photographer had scoped out the shot ahead of time and was all set up.  This gave the B&B staff people time to rearrange the chairs and set up the tables.  We had a little receiving line as people went back into the house.  By then we were ready for everyone to get a beverage and start the buffet.  Granted, if you have a huge crowd it would be very difficult to do something like this, but we only had 80 people and it worked out fine.
