First Song Opinion

I know my wedding isn't for a while, but I've been debating this lately. FI and I's song is kind of a fast song and we're going to use it as our entrance song. So I've been debating on what song to use for our first dance. I've been thinking about doing "For The Longest Time" By Billy Joel because I love him, FI doesn't love him as much as me, but does like him. And I play the song every time we go to breakfast together. The part I'm worried about is this:"Maybe This Won't Last Very Long""Who Knows How Much Further Will Go On. Maybe I'll Be Sorry When You're Gone."But at the end it says "I intend to hold you for the longest time." Opinions? TIA

Re: First Song Opinion

  • Pick a song that you love. No one will be paying close attention to the lyrics. . .We danced to Romeo and Juliet by Dire Straits--I'm an English teacher, and dh plays guitar. . .The lyrics weren't exactly the greatest for a wedding, but we had fun dancing to it:) It was really the only thing DH had an opinion about during the wedding-I let him choose the song. Our only regret--the length!Oh, the only time I was having a problem with lyrics was for our wedding singers(two nieces). They wanted to sing Only Hope, but we are not religious, nor are we each other's only hope. . .SO, we had an issue with the lyrics. However, it was everyone watching and listening to the singers, nothing else was going on. . .When we were dancing, we also had our bridal party with us, so the focus was really on the dancing, not the song itself.good luck with figuring this out!

  • No one pays that much attention to the lyrics.  Just pick a song the two of you love and that is special you to both.

  • I think it's fine. Now, I wouldn't pick a song that's all about breaking up and a broken heart, but I also wouldn't get too caught up over a couple of lyrics. Also, a lot of the overly romantic songs are too cheesy for my tastes anyway.
  • If you love the song and it has some sentimental value to you and your relationship, then go for it. :)Personally, I think that's a really cute idea with that song, based on what you told us. :)
    We're married, woo!
