Gratuity

I'm just starting to get estimates from the venues I'm interested in. All of them charge 20% gratuity, but I'm trying to figure out if the gratuity should just be on food and alcohol, or if it should also be charged on ceremony fee, room setup, linen rentals, parking, etc. Anyone know?

Re: Gratuity

  • Our service fee was only on the food/bev. If you are confused about a proposal or a contract that a venue gives you, ask them to clairify. Do not sign anything unless it is clear.
  • gratuity should only be added to services. So F&B and possibly parking....However, only valet parking, and even then gratuity shouldn't be added unless you want to include it in order to rrelieve your guests of those cost (which is proper ettiquette). The best way to find out what they are charging you gratuity on would either be 1) to ask or 2) do the math yourself. Just make sure you have a line by line itemized bill that lists everything individually so you can actually add up all the costs and see if the 20% matches up to the total bill or just F&B (Food & Beverage) cost. Good luck!!
