Is this okay?

We are planning on having our reception and ceremony at the same venue. Would it we weird to have the ceremony in the reception room with the guests seated at their dinner tables.  There would be an aisle between the tables for the wedding party to walk down. After the ceremony the wedding party leaves and takes pictures in the park the venue is located in, while the guests have cocktail hour.  After cocktail hour the wedding party comes back and are announced.  Then the reception begins.  Awkward? Rude?

Re: Is this okay?

  • I've seen this done a lot recently.  Totally cool.
  • We've seen a couple places where this would be the only option, and honestly, I hated the idea! I don't know exactly why I don't like it, but I just think everything should be separated!
  • A friend of mine had this same situation by default. She was supposed to be married outside, and a reception inside, but it rained and everything had to be moved inside. The guests sat at their tables, but the family was moved onto the dance floor in chairs and made an aisle. I would also recommend not doing your pictures after your ceremony if you want this setup. People will already be sitting in their seats, and then they will probably stay seated until dinner. You and FI could be gone for over an hour taking pictures. Get them done beforehand and don't make your guests wait! This way, you can also be announced as husband and wife, go somewhere and sign your license and be announced again 20mins later after your guests get themselves a drink. When you come back in, it's time for the reception to begin - this may also help to cut costs since you don't have to provide snacks for the cocktail hour. Or you can set up your venue as a ceremony site, have the ceremony, everyone leaves for cocktail hour elsewhere like a patio or pavillion (be sure to supply some tables for the older guests to sit at), and they have cocktail hour while your venue is transformed into your recption site. then guests are invited back in and you are announced as mr and mrs. This plan would take hired help to turn the room over, and would probably cost more.
