I need your Art Nouveau / Vintage ideas!!

So my fiancee and I are interested in planning a wedding with Art Nouveau motifs. If you've never heard of Art Nouveau it's a FABULOUS period of art, Google it, you'll love it. I've been trying to think of ways to inject the style into some of our wedding details and I've thought of the obvious: the save the dates, invitations, menus, programs, cake -- having them all designed with that style in mind. I also thought to track down a period piece brooch (at a moderate price) for me to wear as a 'something old'. But aside from that I can't think of any other, more interesting ways to incorporate it. Maybe we could play an 1890s-1900s hit for our first dance? I'd also love to get suggestions for some good vintage favor ideas!! And if anyone knows where I could find a moderately priced vintage cake stand, that would be very helpful ... I really wish my family had saved these things ... So if anyone has any good ideas or has come across an excellent antique website, I'm open to any and all suggestions! - Julie

  • The art nouveau styles are a great design element, and you have a lot to work with. Definitely add some art nouveau designs to your stationery items to set the tone for your wedding style, STDs, invitations, programs, place cards, menu cards, thank you cards, etc... You might could work in the art nouveau style into the ceremony with your style of dress and accessories, with DH's style of tux. The WP attire doesn't necessarily have to be of a vintage style, but a neutral style would still blend in. Also, the style of containers for the altar flowers, some candelabra stands, or a smaller candelabra for a unity candle. Maybe tussy mussies for the bouquets, vintage brooches and handkercheifs for the BMs and mothers. For the reception, you can incorporate design elements into the centerpieces, table settings, your vintage cake stand, the cake, and the overall decor. If you want to go all out, maybe some "backdrop" scenery or large panels of faux stained glass or architectural designs. Art nouveau came at the end of the Victorian era/beginning of the Edwardian era, so I am picturing large potted palms and plants, and centerpieces of candelabra, Tiffany lamps, or stained glass. You could take clear cylinder vases and paint AN style designs on them for centerpieces, or even paint votive holders for guest favors.
