1940's WWII Theme HELP!

So my wedding is Sept. 18th, 2010 and my fiance and I are planning one a vintage 1940 theme. He is in the military, so we are sticking with his Military background also. He is wearing a WWII military uniform, and I am having a dress made that mimics the 1940's, but I am stuck on what else I can add. Any ideas? I know that we are having a whole bunch of little WWII gliders all around for decerations, but does anyone else have any good ideas? My colors are burnt orange and Army green! Also, do you like this dress for a bridesmaid dress???http://www.unique-vintage.com/beautiful-floral-retro-print-cotton-swing-dress-p-3769.htmlThanks!

• I love vintage ideas! Did you ever see the episode of Gilmore Girls where they did a party like this? Pretty sure the decorating was simple and traditional/classic as far as table cloths and such but they put the theme emphasis in the clothing and entertainment.  They had an Andrew Sisters cover group and lots of swing music.  There may have been a Buy War Bonds and Rosie the Riveter poster or two.  Also, you could get some ideas from the club scene from A League of Their Own.

• This is a great idea! I think you need to find the TIME Magazine picture of the service man kissing the girl. You could use old pictures like that for table numbers decopauge them onto something and maybe give them the old feels by coffee staining. Not sure about the colors but I think more 70s when I think burnt orange and army green. I think 40s and I think lighter colors because they were so conservative for the most part. But its your day and it would look fine if you kept orange and green... just depends on how identical you want to go to the 40s good luck though!
• A vintage 40's style reception sounds really neat. What I picutre for the 40's is a USO type party, military ball, or a vintage Old Hollywood glamorous cocktail party or black tie affair. Good idea about the vintage posters from the era, either war/military related, or vintage hollywood stars/starlets. You might watch old movies to get some ideas, or look on line for vintage props. If you go with a more military theme, I guess the army green and orange would be ok, but it doesn't really seem to go with much else. I picture more black and white, or black and ivory theme. With black and white photos and posters. What color is your FI's dress uniform?
• I was thinking the burnt orange because it is a fall wedding, but I could be flexible with the colors. I know that the men are wearing pinstripe uniforms so that will be black. I guess I was thinking more of accents of orange, but now that I think about it orange and black would look kind of silly. So I could have my maid of honor wear a black dress, what do you think? Also we are having a Rita Hayworth movie play on this wall where the reception will be held! By the way, I love that coffee staining idea! I think that we will have a great deal of pictures of the 1940 era hanging up everywhere, and American flags since back then everyone was super patriotic. • I should look up that Gilmore Girls episode, I have not yet seen it, but that sounds like a really good way to give me ideas.
• It's either season 3 or 4.

• Haha yes I cannot wait to see what it will all turn out to be like either!  I am still really stuck on my colors though. I just cannot seem to find any really great ones, I mean I liked the orange but I don't want to find out that it clashes with the green really horribly. Any suggestions, ladies?
• Yeah I guess we could do that but the thing is that the green is Army green. I provided a link to it in one of my posts. I really like the orange, so I guess I could stick with it.....It's either that or black. So cunfussing! Anyway, I made a list of just the guests I want there and it came out to 120! Holy cow...where am I going to put all these people??? haha
• You could put your girls in a gold color dress. That would be super 1940s classy and it would look nice with everything! I hope that you are able to decide im sure it will look amazing either way! I also can't wait to see some pictures! :-)
• This is the episode: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0588228/WWII  makes me think red, particularly the red lipstick.
• for some reason that era makes me think of robin eggs blue and bright red :D I think it sounds like an awesome idea and I agree with everyone else I really look forward to seeing pictures. I REALLY recommend (if you haven't already) checking out offbeatbride dot com and vintageglambride dot com as I have often seen them feature weddings similar to what you are talking about, and I imagine you could get some great ideas from there! Good Luck!
