Tree Themed Wedding

My Fiance' and I decided we want to have a tree themed wedding - it celebrates life and longevity! :) And we are from a very rural area (our families are not) - we love the trees in our area - especially all the colors around this time (and next year for our wedding). We found a few things that we love - a wedding guest tree, a cake stand, tree centerpieces, and little tree favors. So I have a few questions.1. Is it too much? Especially if we were to put trees on the invites/save the dates. 2. I found tree centerpieces, but I'm not sure if its exactly what I want....Does anyone have any other ideas?3. Any other tree aspects to include? Thanks!!!

• I love this idea. Very creative!

• Hmm...sounds like a lot of trees to me...but I'm sure it would be nice if it's all done tastefully  :-) As for the centerpieces, I have a suggestion...you could use a big lantern with a candle in the middle, and around the base of the lantern put some leaves & flowers.  This is what I'm using as my centerpieces at my reception (10.16.10) and they look beautiful!!!  I think it would be a nice touch to your tree theme...kind of outdoors-ish and woodsy...at least that's how I see it in my head! Good luck!
• I agree with PP that it sounds like a lot of trees.  But, depending on the size of the area you have to decorate, etc. it can be done nicely. For our wedding (in January) we are "creating" trees for the reception.  FMIL and I are going to start collecting really large branches and then spray paint them a silvery-white and put white lights on them and have them along the walls.  I don't really know if you could do something like that with a fall theme and it look decent. A really cool favor that you could do, which I've seen a few people do, is to get your guests (one per couple is fine) a tree to plant in their own yard.  This would go well if you want to help the environment :)
• Everything except the tree favors sounds fine. The tree favors well where will city dwellers traveling from oot plant them and they will not be able to take them on a plane and even if they did woudl have nowhere to plant.
• When I mentioned the tree favors--I wasn't thinking about the fact that you mentioned your family lived in the city.  Oops!
• We've chosen a lot of decor and details that centers around trees, branches and vines, too. Just because we like that type of stuff anyway. Our invites have branches on them, my rings have flowers and vines engraved on them, my earrings and hairpiece have some leaf details. I think your ideas are fine. For centerpieces, we're using green votive holders, small cube vases with rocks and candles, and maybe a lantern or a small flower arrangement for the focal element. Haven't decided yet. Ditto PPs on the tree favors. Great idea, but I live in a city and I'd be bummed if I couldn't plant it. Maybe a donation to the Arbor Day Foundation instead, or a local state park?

• erin, your ideas sound fine.  Just remember that a little theme goes a long, long way.  I wouldn't OD on trees, trees, trees everywhere.I'd go with what you have now, and not get sucked into other "tree aspects".
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
• First, ditto pps, ditch the tree favors. Not a good favor and a lot of them will be dead in a year. I agree a donation is a better option. 1. nope2. how about branches with a few flowers or crystals in a vase?3. I think you have enough.
• I like the theme. You reminded me that I got a tree favor at an office Christmas party last year. It's still in the closet in my office. I guess I'd better toss it. You could plan a tree together on that day and make a little ceremony out of it instead of a unity candle.
• Instead of a unity candle-we did a tree ceremony. You could incorporate something like that. A bio I saw recently but can't recall at the moment used rounds of the tree (not sure what they're called. like stumps w/o the root) as their centerpieces/table numbers. I would donate the money vs using tree as favors. Donate to the Arbor Foundation or to save a rainforest. I would also try to find invites that are printed in recycled paper.
• everyone is mentioning the problem with three favors..so I thought I would thow out an idea: what if you use little bonzi trees or some lucky bamboo for the favors..that way everyone will be able to put them to good use?Other then that it sounds amazing!Oh and I second the tree planting ceremony!
• We had a wire and bead tree on top of our cake that I made.  Maybe you could do something similar.
• Bonsai are even worse as favors. It's a hobby of mine. They have some very special requirements for care, depending on the kind you get. And they aren't cheap. And caring for bonsai, is even more of a commitment than caring for a tree sapling.  Most of the kind you see commonly sold aren't going to live more than year because most people have no idea how to care for them. The pines, especially the pines that are "classically" bonsai, are most likely to die, if they aren't already dead when you buy them. With bonsai or lucky bamboo, or any kind of living plant material, you run the risk of transportation accidents and confiscations, depending on how OOT your guests are.  Never mind if any of them even like to garden. Maybe do acorns in the bottom of vases (instead of rocks) for your centerpieces or give out seed packets for favors if you don't want to do a donation. http://www.etherealdecor.com/projects.htmlhttp://wedlog.zzilch.com/?page_id=189
• I think what you suggested is fine (with the exception of tree favors for reasons suggested by PPs).I don't think it sounds too much, very few people at the wedding will remember that you had trees on your STDs and Invites as well and even if they do people are used to unified themes these days.Martha Stewart has a fun program insert which lists your birthday tree: -http://www.marthastewartweddings.com/goodthings/take-a-boughI also like using tree stumps as centre pieces with flower displays on top ( i have a great picture of this but I'm not sure how to upload it, if you give me your email I'll send it to you).Perhaps you could give it an enchanted forest feel, April Hiler on Etsy has some great items that may work with your themehttp://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=7366134
