guests- take the flowers with you

We are decorating our location with lots of potted mums, marigolds, and pumpkins.  After the wedding, we have no use for them, so we were thinking of asking/offering them up to our guests.  Any good way to "announce" this, without actually announcing it? Were having a very informal wedding, and no DJ, so thats not an "option"

Re: guests- take the flowers with you

  • You could put a small note or card tied to them with a ribbon or with raffia straw ribbon. Something like "A token of our thanks for sharing our special day". Or just spread the word that they are welcome to take them home. If there are any left, you can plant them, or give them away to those that helped you a lot.
  • You could donate left over plants/flowers to a nursing home or assisted living facility.
  • humm.... our friends had an informal wedding without a DJ and allocated some friends to be "MCs" - they made any necessary announcements during the evening... just a thought.
  • Will you have programs? You can add it to your program. If not, then just spread the word. I did that with my centerpieces and only 1 person actually asked if they could take one, and they were all gone when we cleaned up.
  • I like the tag idea. Also I'd also like to 2nd donating the flowers. I'm donating our flowers to the nursing home the FI's grandfather is living at. He probably won't be able to make the wedding so we thought this would be a nice gesture.
  • If you're making visits to people at their tables, say something like, "After the reception's over, feel free to take home the flowers and pumpkins if you'd like." Or, if you and FI plan to give a thank you speech to your guests on the microphone, casually mention that the decorations can be taken home.Or just do word of mouth to a few people. Once a few people do it, others will see them and follow suit. Donating them to a hospital or nursing home is also a nice idea.

  • My BFF had a little contest. Whoever's birthday was closest to the date of the wedding at each table got to take home the centerpiece. It turned out really cute!
  • I like the BDay thing. We went to a wedding in May and as we were leaving, (we were one of the first, since our son had been out of the hospital only 2 weeks) the FOB told us to take centerpieces. They matched our house perfectly, so I was excited.
  • I plan on doing breakaway centerpieces with wine bottles.
