Possibly dumb question about chargers... How long do they last?

OK. I realize that probably no one has ever even thought about this, but I was wondering if anyone had any idea how long plate chargers last. (The cheap acrylic kindf they sell at Christmas Tree Shop).I was able to purchase enought for our June wedding and now need a place for them. As a gesture to being so kind and wonderful to us during this time, I have told our venue coordinator that he can have them after our wedding. (I originally planned on ordering them).Since I got such a great deal on them, and I had the money, I bought them now. But now hav eto find a place to keep them for 8 months. Does anyone have any idea how many uses you usually get out of chargers before the paint wears off? Like if I gave them to our coordinator now, would they still look good by time our wedding came around? (I realize I couldn't ask him to hold them without using them). The venue has gold chargers, but I wanted red. So I bought red, and most people who buy charger for their homes might use them 3 times a year, instead of 3 times in a weekend like a catering hall could. So does anyone know how many uses you are expected to get out of chargers? (AKA How many uses until the paint wears off?) Thanks!

Re: Possibly dumb question about chargers... How long do they last?

  • They'd probably last a few uses, depending on quality, but after you spent the money to buy them, I would want the first use to be the wedding. Find a spot in a closet or ask parents or a friend to hold them for you.
  • or rent a storage unit..they have climate controlled ones that you could either A) store wedding stuff until its time or B) store things you don't really need around the house to make space for you wedding stuffThat way you will not have to worry about something happening to them at all!
  • I have some chargers that match my good china that I inherited that have been used at least yearly since the 1920's I would say you get a bunch of use out of them however I know that breaking has occured and a hall might be more likely to have breakage
  • I have the acrylic one that you're talking about.  I've had gold ones for about 15 years and I've had red ones for about 8 years.  They're all holding up just fine.Don't ever  put them in the dishwasher, I don't think they'd hold up too long if you did.  Wash them by hand, be careful when you put them away (put paper between the chargers), and they'll last for a very long time.
