"modern" love song - first dance

Anyone have any great ideas for a first dance song that is modern? I love Ray LaMontagne's "You are the best thing" but it's a bit too fast. My best friend danced to Patty Griffin's "Heavenly day" which was lovely, but obviously I can't use that now.Any ideas??  THANKS!

Re: "modern" love song - first dance

  • Peter Frampton - Baby I Love Your WayMy best friend just got married August 15th and this was her 1st dance song.  Beautiful song & it was fun to watch the bride & groom dance to it.
  • What about Ingrid Michelson's remake of Elvis' "Can't Help Falling in Love With You"orJack Johnson's remake of The White Strips "We are Gonna Be Friends"

  • Not sure if this is helpful, but my sister just used "You are the best thing" for her first dance in June, and it worked perfectly. It's faster than a typical FD song, but you can still slow-dance to it (although, they used actual steps rather than the swaying version...) and it made the whole thing more celebratory than sentimental. If you're stuck on that song, just go for it--everything else won't sound as good in comparison.
  • I don't see a reason you couldn't use Heavenly day by Patty Griffin even if your friend did. I wouldn't care if my friend had the same song as her first dance as I did.

  • "When I Say I Do" by Matthew West. We danced to "When the Rain Comes" by 3rd Day.

  • Thanks gals!I just discovered "This kind of love" by Sister Hazel. (I just wish Ken were the one singing it, I love his voice.)I've always loved "Forever" by Ben Harper and have been considering that one, as well.I'll post anything else I come across in case anyone else is trying to figure out a song to use. ;)
