writing your menu on the invitations???

i have two questions. one is i am trying to narrow down the menu to two choices (filet mignon and chicken) so if i have these as options on the invite, do you also include vegetarian? or is that something that people will just respond with? i have only seen once wedding invitation lately and vegetarian was not an option. my second question is do most people just say "beef or chicken" or do you write out the actual meal? (filet mignon) sorry if these seem silly, i just have not seen an invitation for over 5 years!!!

Re: writing your menu on the invitations???

  • The selection would go on the RSVP card, not the invitation itself.I would write filet mignon and chicken cordon blue (or whatever). It's always nice to offer a veggie dish as a third choice.

  • The menu choices are listed on the reply card. Yes you need to include the vegetarian option. Be specific/descriptive as possible with the food descriptions because some people may have food allergies and others may end up choosing a different option if they don't like how something is fixed. Most people do just say "beef" and "chicken" but that really doesn't give you any information at all to work with for the above listed reasons.
  • We had 3 choices on ours and also added a kids meal for those we knew were bringing kids. we didnt have a veggie meal listed but did have one person write it on which was fine.. we totally accomidated it and expected it but didnt list it as a choice.
  • Also, list your kids' option if you are offering one to let them know what is available.
  • For my DD and SIL's wedding they were allowed two options for dinner.  They were also told that vegetarian requests would be honored.  Since that was the case, they put all three choices on the response card. They had wanted to be somewhat descriptive with what they put on the card but the final details of the menu had not been worked out by the time the invitations were ordered so they ended up putting Prime Rib of Beef, Salmon, and Vegetarian. When guests arrived at the reception, there were menu cards at each place setting giving more details so if someone really didn't like the sauce on the fish, they could ask to have their's served plain.
