Reception Decor

I want to have my wedding in my hometown (so my grandmother can attend), but it's really small, without a lot of options.  Basically the only indoor place for the reception is a community center, with flourescent lighting, really high ceilings, bare white walls, and concrete floors. I don't want to spend a ton of money making it beautiful, but I don't want it to be really plain, either... any ideas?

Re: Reception Decor

  • Hi I don't know what your colors are but usually there is some white in the wedding decor. Use it to your advantage. Accent with white through out with just a small accent color. You could always bring in larger things to off set the basic bare walls. For example: your wedding is in May, if you had a garden style wedding you could bring in white lattice pannels to draw the eye away from plain to interesting. Decorate these with grapevines or other decor that fits your style and theme. Fabric draped on pillars or colored banners draped from your high ceilings would bring the wedding an interesting look. Pipe and drape is available from rental companies. It helps add some cover in selected areas. Won't break the bank in costs either, unless you want to do the whole venue. A trellis would also help with drawing the eye away or a small fountain. Use things you, a family member or friend may have. Even outdoor furniture can work if it fits with you wedding ideas. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

  • * Does it have to be indoors? Are there outdoor/marque options? I like the evening idea too ... deck it out with candles! Maybe you could use floor lamps for brighter ambient light. Lamps on the tables too ... tape down the wires well. Switch off those flouros! You could hang organza sheets on the walls ... maybe even rig up a lower fabric false ceiling bohemian style - you'd have to be resourceful on that one. Large plants can reduce starkness and add flare. I would suggest creating focus on the tables; dance floor etc so it's not so obvious that the walls are bare. Maybe hang some fairy lights about. As for the concrete floor ... does home depot have anything inexpensive on the long rolls that you could utilize? Straw!? LOL - sorry.
