Reception Ideas

I am getting married in Key West in April '10 and I am having an issue finding somewhere for me and my guest to go after the wedding to have some drinks and maybe some apps.  I just want somewhere that we can all be together and enjoy eachother before we go out to Duval street.  Anyone have any ideas??

  • You would probably get more help if you posted this on your local board :)

  • I thought about that but it is a destination wedding.  I don't live in Key West that is what is making it so hard.  It is about an 8 hour trip for me to go down there.
  • If you post this on the south Florida board, I am sure the ladies that live in that area will give you great tips on where you can go.

  • Where is the ceremony? How many people are you inviting? What hotel is everyone staying at? Most of the hotels have ballrooms that you can rent for a big crowd. A lot of restaurants have smaller group rooms. Are you hosting dinner somewhere on Duval or would this place be the dinner? If you're doing dinner on Duval, you could just get the dinner place to give you a spot to hang out. When I lived there, my husband's company always hosted their Christmas party at a restaurant on Simonton that let us block off the back deck, but I can't remember the name of it. Abbondanza's is an Italian place in the area, I think they have a private room.
  • The wedding is going to be at Smathers Beach.  There is going to be about 15-25 people coming from everywhere.  The hotel is going to be close to the wedding site.  I am looking for like heavy apps and drinks.  Not a sit down dinner or anything like that.  Maybe just like a happy hour after the wedding.
  • So what are people supposed to do for dinner? The Grand Key Doubletree is over there. They have a great pool area with a bar.
  • You can try the Hemingway house.  I think they do a lot of small receptions and the yard is really pretty.  Otherwise you can try http://www.latrattoria.us/key-west-restaurants-pictures.html.They may be willing to do a small cocktail reception.  I was just there this past summer but I dont really remember the restaurant options as we bar hopped our way through town. LOL.  Another idea is to see if you can do a cruise out in the water with just cocktails and appetizers.  They do snorkel cruises- Maybe if you have enough people together to book the whole boat they will take you out without going snorkling.  I went on the windjammer for a snorkel/sunset cocktail cruise but I bet they may let you minus the snorkle and just take you out for a small sail.  Never hurts to ask.
