Ceremony/Reception Timeline, etc.?

I was wondering if anyone could give me a good ceremony and reception timeline, like what happens and when. I am mostly looking for help with the reception, like when do we cut the cake, where does dancing work into the schedule, when do the maid of honor and best man get to talk, etc. The only reception timelines I have been able to find include dinner and a cocktail hour. We are not serving dinner and won't have any alcohol. We are hoping to provide some sort of "snack", but have to look into the prices first. Our ceremony and reception are in 2 different buildings in the same place (as in, if someone drove from the ceremony to the reception it would take about 20 seconds). We will probably take pictures inbetween for a short amount of time, but we still have to figure that out. I haven't been in a wedding before and I have only been to a few as a guest. So most everything I know, I've learned on here! So if anyone could just give me a rough schedule of what goes down during the ceremony and reception, it would be really helpful. Also, right now we are looking at starting the ceremony at about 12:30 or 1 (we only get the ceremony site until 2 if there is a second wedding booked that day, otherwise it is flexible) to hopefully tell people we won't be serving lunch. What do you think of this time? Would starting at 1 give us enough time to be done by 2? Or would starting at 12:30 still tell guests to eat before they come? I will probably think of more questions later. Any advice on anything else? Thanks in advance!

Re: Ceremony/Reception Timeline, etc.?

  • If you aren't serving a meal, you need to start at 2 or later so people don't expect lunch. At 1, people still expect lunch. If you aren't seeing each other before the ceremony, do as many pics as you can without the two of you before the ceremony. You could do: 2:00-2:30 ceremony 2:30-3:00 mocktail hour (do variety of n/a bevs and a fruit/cheese tray) while you do pictures 3:00 introduction 3:10 first dance/parent dances 3:30-table visits, guests mingle, refreshments available 4:00-toasts, cake cuttting 4:30-5:00 more mingling, end at 5
