tea lights on tables?

I just bought about 100 tea light candles when I was at IKEA this weekend.  They were super cheap and in the colors (green & yellow) of my wedding.  They also have a light scent which is pretty.  I also bought 100 white tea lights.  I liked these because they're non petroleum based and claim to last over 4 hours of burning time.I am wondering will these be okay to put on the tables at our reception by themeselves?  Do we need votive holders or some sort of base?  Our reception is indoors with standard table cloths.  Is this safe?

Re: tea lights on tables?

  • check with your venue.  But I would imagine most will require a holder.  I know where I work they do.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • We will be renting the table cloths and I will have to check with the venue.  I didn't find anything specifically in our contract yet.  A better questions is:  Where can I buy cheap votives for 100+ tea lights?
  • hmmm... sorry for the confusion.  I bought tea lights.  The little ones with just a basic metal casings.I'm getting the feeling these won't be safe enough by themselves on the tables.  Too hot/dangerous etc. What are ideas I can do with them now?  What can I buy to make these work?  Not only are they really cute, I also can't return them (3+ hours away)
  • Check out the dollar store.  the one here has little tea light holders for 4 for a $1.
