decoration ides?

Our reception will be held in a ski lodge, my fiance and I choose to do an all horderve evening, we aren't skimping, we just wanted everyone to be as social as they can and we will make sure everyone has plenty so they can stuff themselves if they choose. It does present a decorating problem though, since no large tables to decorate, I've run into a wall as to how to incorporate our colors, should I even try to have a color theme if there are no tables to really make the colors pop?The lodge is rustic with large round pillar wooden logs holding up the three floor ceiling, and has it's own ambiance, but I think it would still be nice to dress it up a bit.Can you offer any suggestions? I appreciate the advice.Instead of our colors, I was thinking keep it simple with just white and little lights/candles...

• We're having a non-seated "stations" style wedding, but we're still going to have tables for about 1/3 of the guests. We're using 4- and 6-person tables so it won't look like a seated banquet.Do they at least have "elbow height" cocktail tables so folks can congregate around them and have someplce to set drinks & purses while they eat? I'm planning to do flowers in my colors on the mantels (my venue has three fireplaces), and on the small tables.Other than that, the colors will be in all our flowers, aisle decorations, the cake, the candy buffet and on the scattered tables.
• tracy, I'm just curious:  what are the 2/3 of your guests for whom there is not seating do to eat?  Do they stand, balancing their food, handbag, wrap, camera, etc?I strongly suggest you go back and reevaluate not having adequate seating for your guests.  Even if you don't want to do assigned tables, you still really need to have a place for your guests to sit down.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
• The lodge has big comfy couches and chairs which should supply enough seating for the guests, good idea on the cocktail tables, maybe we'll look into renting some, there is another section off the lodge with two seater tables that we will have open too, I like using flowers and candy table etc to highlight the colors, any other ideas?
• Even though the idea of having a cocktail and hors d'ouevres reception is to keep people up and moving around, it's still uncomfortable for guests to be standing a long time, juggling a drink, finger foods, and a purse. Good idea about renting small tables, and having enough seating for all or most of the guests to sit down at one time. Even a small grouping of chairs around a small cocktail or bistro type table is fine. It gives guests a place to sit down and set drinks down. You can just do an assortment of small arrangements, bud vases, candles, or simple plants on all the small tables. If there is a fireplace, that is a great place to add some color to the mantle, or some largish potted flowering plants on each side of the fireplace (or in front of it if there is no fire going). You can also get a little color with cocktail napkins and table runners.
• I like the idea of candles on top of a mirror scattered among flowers or petals that have a color that pops. Try out this site I came across while trying to play with a color scheme. It's really helpful: http://theperfectpalette.blogspot.com/search/label/Winter
• Great ideas, thanks so much. I like using the candy bar with our colors, now we are definetley going to get little cocktail tables. Thanks for that website it gives great color scheme ideas!Happy Weddings!
