this could be a stupid question.... im having a plated dinner at my reception. Im having a seating chart do I need to also do place cards for assigned seating? How would they know who got what??? TIA

Do the cards in different colors to signify the meal choices, and let the wait staff know what they mean.

You should check with your caterer to see how they normally do it. Most weddings that I've been to where we've had to select our entrees ahead of time still had waiters come around and ask us what we ordered. So we didn't have to be in a particular seat. If your hall doesn't plan on asking each person what they ordered then you probably have to do seating cards and some how indicate what each person had ordered.
