Late night snack

I want to do a late night snack and wanted others opinions on what is best to serve.  The one thing I can think of is pizza, but I want some more ideas.  After a night of drinking and dancing, what would you want to munch on?Also, the reception ends at midnight and I was thinking about the late night snack coming out around 11, do you think that is a good time to do it?

Re: Late night snack

  • Are there taco trucks or anything like it where you live? We wanted to have a late night taco truck but it's not in the budget :(.

  • I'm usually in the mood for diner food.  Onion rings, mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers... anything fried.  Basically read down the Denny's appetizer menu, and I'll happily eat it.I think the last hour of the reception is good timing, it gives people enough time to eat it and also sends a signal that things are starting to wind down.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • After a night of drinking I'll usually go for anything that's greasy. Pizza, cheese steaks, fries, etc.
  • sliders - have beef, veggie and chicken. Pizza Tacos.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • 11 sounds great. We did ours at 1130 as our reception ended at 12:30. We did sliders, french fries in mini boxes, hot dogs wrapped in pastry, and warm jumbo pretzels. There are a few pics in my married bio
  • Thanks, great ideas everyone!  BostonBride, I love your flower girl dress (and your dress too)!
  • Usually after a long night of drinking I want fast food, lol! Like tacos from Jack in the Box or a hamburger and fries from McDonalds :)
  • Do jello shots count as food? LOL! After a night of drinking and dancing, I usually want to go have breakfast, or something simple. Not too sweet, rich, or spicy. Maybe finger sandwhiches, or cold cut trays.
  • 11 is fine to serve the late night snack if the reception ends at midnight. Jello shots are considered a type of alcoholic beverage, not substantial food that soaks up alcohol. In some areas, pizza parlors, etc are not open that late so fast food and bars are the only things you may have available. I've read in one past issue of InStyleWeddings where a couple different celebs had McDonald's cheeseburgers picked up and passed out to guests. Taco Bell, Wendy's In & Out are all options that are available late-night but your coordinator would need to arrange someone (not a guest) to pick them up.
  • Haha, I think Jello Shots are the last thing my friends are going to need at 11pm!I would LOVE to do In n' Out Burger, or even breakfast burittos from our favorite late night dive place, but the venue does not allow any outside food :-(
  • Browse the appetizer menus at Denny's or IHOP for ideas and ask your caterer if they can fix that for you.
  • My husband bought a ton of red bull and it was brought out around 10. It was quite the hit, everyone loved it especially since it was a Friday wedding. I wish we thought to do a snack with it, great idea!!
  • Nachos! That's what I always want when I've been out late having a good time.
  • We went really simple and had our caterer set out all the left over hordervs along with another "cheese, cracker, meat" tray and we also had several huge bowls of chips, pretzels, and chex mix. It was very simple, but everyone loved it. We put it out at 10:30 with the reception ending at midnight.

  • What a great idea!  I always think of a a few different places when I think about late night food after dancing and drinking.  Taco Bell was the big one that we always hit in college after the bars closed.  Grease and tortillas help soak up some of the alcohol.  :)I always liked to hit Steak & Shake after partying.  Cheese fries and a shake.  My FH is a White Castle guy all the way:  sliders and fries.A lot of my friends do IHOP/Denny's breakfast stuff, but 11 is a little early for that.  That's more of a 3am thing.  Sounds super fun!
  • We just did a Chicago style hot dog cart at our reception, and people are still talking about it. We had our venue til 1 am, and started the "late night eats" at 11 pm.
  • Our caterer sujested a make ur own sandwich bar with diffrent kinds of fresh bread, meats, cheese, and spreads. We loved the idea but in the end we decided we are going to have a big bon fire instead so we are going with the traditional hotdogs and marshmellows. Anything that can be eaten as finger food will go over well.
  • a couple of ideas... my venu does fresh chocolate chip cookies, peanut buter cookies, and other fresh backed cookies with ice chilled milk shots! i think its adorable!! but its a late night thing, not to be brought out until way after the cake is served! good luck!
  • I went to a wedding were they did popcorn and handed it out in little chinese boxes. It was nice and simple and really hit the spot. Otherwise I love the chocolate chip cookies and milk shots idea!
  • I 3rd the cookies & shots of milk, I am doing the same thing! My venue, the DoubleTree, is famous for their chocolate chip cookies so I want those & then I was thinking mini quesadillas or sliders. Thanks for reminding me though b/c I need to email my coordiantor about it! Oh & our reception ends at midnight too but I think I want the snacks to be brought out @ 10:30. HTH & GL!
  • What about mini hamburgers? That would sound delicious to me. I think its a great idea, especially for drunk people. Good luck!!
  • Not sure if anyone posted this answer (I didnt read ALL of them) but are you allowed to rent a popcorn machine? (I know you said that your venue doesn't allow outside food) I'm thinking of renting 1 myself for a late night snack (we are having baseball theme during cocktail hr) Many local party/rental stores offer a machine, and really wasn't too expensive (less than $150) But I do love all the other ideas, like wings, pizza, tacos, burgers, breakfast food...mmmm now I'm hungry!! Good luck planning!
  • What about milk and cookies? Just a thought....GL
  • Thanks everyone!!!  These are some great suggestions!  I love the cookies and milk idea and the mini hamburgers!
  • Where we are from there is always a hot dog stand outside of the bar or club so that's what we did! I knew we were taking a chance and that to some people it would seem "weird" but everyone loved it: old, young, drunk, sober, etc. We grilled our hot dogs at 10:45pm
  • I know this may sound a little "cheesy", but something I love is grilled cheese....It's great because it's another food that is economical, hard to screw up, and soaks up the alcohol! I'm a bartender, and believe me I make it enough for some of my friends that I've served a little too much! Good luck, and let us know what you end up with!
  • My friend had cookies and milk.  The milk was in little cartons.  It was cute but not the best for people that have been drinking.  We are having a Chicago Style Hot Dog Bar and serving it at 11 pm.  our reception ends at midnight.
