Brunch reception

Hello all! We had a change in plans for our wedding and are now looking at a brunch reception since our wedding date is a Sunday. Any suggestions for a brunch reception? What to serve? What time? Music? Alcohol? Just looking for some inspiration from those who have done it, plan to do it, or just have their 2 cents to share! :)

Re: Brunch reception

  • I love Sunday brunch!  I'm thinking about my favorite Sunday brunch buffet place.  I would do the ceremony at 10-11ish, reception after, maybe 3 hours long. For food, do an assortment of brunch foods: breakfast meats, omlette station, waffle bar, fruits, pastry bar, bagels and lox, quiche...Its up to you whether to do alcohol.  With my group, I'd do a bloody mary bar and mimosas, and maybe pitchers of sangria or something.
  • What to serve? Omelet station or maybe a crepes station, bacon, scrambled eggs, silver dollar pancakes, a ham or turkey carving station, breakfast potatoes, sausages, fruit, quiche, assorted juices, breakfast pastries, maybe a light chicken or fish dish, pasta or a pasta station, breads/toast and waffles, oatmeal with toppings, bagels, salads, vegetable platter with dip, shrimp, etc. What time? Maybe somewhere between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.Music? At least something light for background noise, like jazz or classical or standards (Frank Sinatra, etc.). You can have dancing if you want, but I think a no-dance reception would be quite suitable with a brunch. Alcohol: Your call. Mimosas, plain champagne, light wine, sangria, screwdrivers, Bloody Marys, Bellinis, Malibu Bay Breezes, Irish coffees. But non-alcoholic is also fine ... ice water, coffee, assorted hot tea and iced tea, maybe espresso and cocoa, assorted juices, maybe some sodas and punch. I love brunch foods! Yum :)

  • Here is our menu:   Assorted salads, crudites, dip. Peel & Eat shrimp, smoked salmon, fresh fruit salad, selection of breads, muffins, danishes, imported and domestic cheeses, pate, scrambled eggs, country sausage, bacon, home fried potatoes, carved roast sirloin, fresh seasonal vegetable, honey glazed ham, assorted desserts, pastries, squares, fruit juices, and coffee/tea.This is the typical Sunday brunch menu that the venue serves every week in the restaurant portion of the inn. We will likely make some adjustments (I can't stand pate and I don't think anyone I know would eat it. I also hate shrimp, but I know many of my guests would be thrilled to see it there, so it will stay). Our ceremony will likely be at 10:30, refreshments (fruit trays, hot apple cider, tea) at 11, and brunch at 11:30.For music we're just going to use a laptop and the sound system that's built into the room. We won't have any dancing, so I don't anticipate that we'll have trouble with people changing the music. My brother (a DJ) will be keeping an eye on it though (he volunteered as his gift to us to arrange the music, no, I didn't ask him to work at my wedding). For alcohol, we're providing a champagne mimosa for each guest for toasting, and we're having no other alcohol. My FI's family is rather anti-alcohol anyway and I'm pretty sure most of them won't even drink the mimosa, so we're comfortable with no other alcohol. My favourite part of the brunch wedding is that we can have another party later that night with the younger crowd. It also allows time in the afternoon to sleep.. We're also having it on a long weekend, so our guests have time to travel..

  • My frioends did one two years ago They had Drinks Coffee , tea , assorted juices, irish cofee, mimosas, bloddy marys , belinis Food Dunkin donuts, beligin waffles, bacon, ham, eggs, assorted fruit and yougurt I'm not sure what else There was wedding cake But it was a huge hit Honestly breakfast food is cheaper and very popular
  • One of my friends had a brunch reception with cheese and crackers, fruit (pineapple, kiwi, grapes), ham, omelets, chicken marsala, veggies, breakfast pastries and breads, and of course wedding cake. It was great. It was a dry reception with sparkling cider for toasts, which I like much better than champagne anyway. They had a spring trio or quartet for music, which fit well with the atmosphere at the country club.
  • Thank you all for your wonderful suggestions (especially all the food)! I am still struggling with timing of the ceremony...since we are doing a lot of DIY set up. Our venue is kinda like a loft-type venue and comes with nothing- no chairs, tables, etc. It all has to be rented from a different company. What do you think is the latest we could serve brunch?
