AM I Crazy???

So, we found a caterer that will do our customized menu of both Indian Food & Soul Food for our 250 person wedding. With the menu & plated dinner service, she was going to charge $12,000. But, I think I can do better. I've called around to a few restaurants to see their catering prices and gathered that we can have a VERY similar menu for $6,000. And I found a business that will do the service for $2,000. Now my question is, would it be worth the $4,000 we save to have the two restaurants cater the wedding and then another company plate & serve the food? I know its a lot of money to save, but what if something goes wrong? Its leaving a lot of room open for something to go terribly wrong..... So, save the $$$ and risk a horrible reception, or pay the $$$ and have it guaranteed to go smoothly? PLEASE HELP. TIA. :)

  • Hmm, that's tough, but remember even if you book everything through one caterer there are no "guarantees of perfection"
  • You really can't be "guaranteed" for it to go smoothly no matter how you decide to book. IMO, though, the less people you hire, the less people you need to keep track of and stress over.

  • I'd just make sure that you have all the bases covered when comparing the 2 alternatives.  For example, are all the plates, flatware, etc included in one cost and not in the other?
  • My post is lost in translation but I said that I would save the 4K and use it for honeymoon or house downplayed that is a lot of cash for not too much extra hassle
  • Thanks ladies. I'm just worried that too many cooks will spoil the soup here.

But you're right, having one caterer doesn't necessarily guarantee perfection anyway.

And it IS a lot of money to be able to save... I'd like to give it a try... maybe a dry run? Order enough for 10 people and have it delivered to the site and see how much goes wrong?

    haha... I sound crazy.....
