Picture over fireplace mantel

At our wedding venue there is a gorgeous fireplace that we want to get married in front of.   The problem is there is a picture over the mantel that cannot be removed that we do not like and does not go with our theme.  Any suggestions on how to cover it up simply and tastefully without covering up the fireplace.

  • This is a picture of the picture over the mantel
  • I didn't even really notice the picture.  My eyes went straight to the tables and centerpieces.  I think you probably notice it because you're looking at it with a bride's eye but I don't think anyone's going to really notice.  The more you try to cover it up, the more attention you're going to draw to it.

  • Get one of your engagement pictures printed on a large canvas piece and cover it with that?  I would probably think that's a lot tackier than whatever is on the painting though.

I agree with this. This is probably your best option. You could also try drapping. It might not be worth it, money wise. You could drap over it and have the drapping come over it and fall down around the fire place. But with this option you might run into problems like the drapping catching fire (assuming it will be lit) or covering up the fireplace completely.
