Theme help?

Hello!
I am in the midst of planning my late September wedding. So far we have our venue, a country club with and outdoor ceremony and indoor reception. And I just ordered my dress, Pipa Middleton inspired, but without the sleeves and with a small train.

Our colors are Burgundy, dusty rose, medium gray (suits) and ivory (dress).
blush + mauveGillian & Joshua invitation, $1,975 for a 5-piece set of 100, Ceci New York, (212) 989-0695, CeciNewYork.com "Cameo" French milled favor soaps, $12 for a set of six, Plumparty.com; shell dish, Two’s Company, (914) 664-2277, Two...

So, I'm having trouble with a theme to tie everything together. We're getting married in September because we love fall (warm, but not too; leaves changing and falling; etc.). I also love the idea of vintage. The last few days, I've been thinking about Old Hollywood.
Does anyone have any other ideas or advice? TIA!

Re: Theme help?

  • You really don't need a theme.  Just keep everything in the same feel and you'll be fine.  In other words, with that dress I would expect a classy, semi-formal to formal reception - not backyard bbq, you know?  So keep it classy and simple and you'll be fine.
  • Weddings don't need themes.......everything will tie together with your colors, formality/casualness, venue, invitations, etc.
  • I don't think you have to have a theme if you don't want to as long as your colors coordinate.

  • we've got a paw print heart emblem on the invites and the bouncy castle will be a scooby doo one. our colours are black and white with a hint of red and lots of things are being homemade and the tables and yet to be named. If any one has the better suggestion are welcome!
  • Weddings don't need themes - if one naturally comes to mind and makes sense for you, that's great, but if it doesn't, it's perfectly fine to just go with a set of colors and a certain formality level.  I don't have a "theme" either - I'm just picking things that I and FI like within a particular color scheme, and so far, everything "goes" together just fine.

  • You dont need a theme at all.....your colors are beautiful! Agree with the PP's that everything will be pulled together based on all of your elements. If you did want something that could go into everything pick a design/monogram that would be consistent throughout (invites, programs, menu cards, table numbers, escort cards, etc.).
  • There is an old song callled autumn roses.
  • Our theme is wedding.  I think it's an awesome theme.

Hey no fair!  You stole my theme!  Now I have to go post an incredibly long, paragraph-less rant about how you stole my theme.  AND I have to make sure to include absolutely no capitalization or punctuation.

  • lol...OP if you want a theme, I feel ya.  Although you don't need one I can understand if you want one.

Your theme could be the colors, a specific flower (I've seen a Daisy be used a theme or lavender, etc), you could do the Victorian look as well.

I love your colors and as long as you keep the colors going everything will look beautiful together (just like in the picture who posted....no theme just a color theme).

  • loosely arranged flowers in vintage glasses
you could make into vintage look with grey, white, brown and so forth
If you opt for vintage theme wedding in fall, purple is the perfect color for the wedding.
