Comprimises

Ive been looking for a venue for 5 months now...originally I dreamed of rustic elegance in a barn though my parents were not having it.  Its not worth it to battle so I realize I have to make some concessions....can I really turn a formal ballroom into something that I originally dreamt of?  I know with weddings there is going to be give and take but how do I go from barn in a field to ballroom without feeling like i totally gave up my dream?

Re: Comprimises

  • We found a ballroom in a small, family-owned/run inn where we can have the ceremony outside in the gardens and then move inside for the reception.  We are planning to keep with the garden theme and have floral centerpieces with bark, blueberry jam for favors/escort cards, and keep it kind of rustic/elegant.  Maybe you can find something that's not the ballroom of a huge hotel, but a place with a little more character as a nice compromise.

    Good luck!
  • Search for rustic centerpieces on google. I have seen several that are very classic but will still give you that rustic / barn feel. I don't know that you will be able to totally change a very formal ballroom into the barn area of your dreams but you might be able to find something you can enjoy.

What about making sure you get some photos taken with you and your FI outside or in a barn?
  • We are in the same situation, as far as the ballroom vs. the barn.

We're trying to create a country, homespun, romantic feel.

I suggest lost of flowers, whether real or fake.. (we're using fake, bc of extreme family allergies.) Also, we are using mason jars, ball jars, etc. tying a purple gingham ribbon around with some hay on the inside & candles.. (make sure either candle is either electric, or much, much taller than the small amount of hay around it..) We'e also using alot of lace & other country-esq items.

    Good Luck!!
