Saving top tier of cake

Hi ladies---

Does anyone know of any good ways to kee the top tier of my wedding cake free from freezer burn and things for a year?! I've heard different ideas but I've heard good and bad reviews from each---anyone had any experience with this?!

Thanks so much!!

Our caterers took care of this for us and ours was fine.  I remember layers and layers of plastic wrap.  Then they wrapped that in aluminum foil and put it in a small cake box.  When we came back from our HM, we picked it up from my mom who had put it in a tupperware type container in addition to that.

  • Ditto pps.  We had our cake frozen for a year and it was great when it was defrosted.  Ditto our son and DIL's cake.  Wrap in in layers of aluminum foil, put it in a cake box, and keep it in the freezer.  It should be fine.

  • Ours was great too!  Layers and layers of Saran Wrap.  Foil over the top of that and in a cake box in my MIL's freezer.

  • Ditto PP...we'll probably eat our top tier prior to that because we have a very small freezer.  We can get a fresh top tier from the bakery on our 1 year.

  • My mom wrapped hers in tupperware and had no problems.

Our cake place advised against freezing for a year (citing health concerns). Instead, they'll give us a free, fresh replica of our top-tier on our anniversary.

  • I wrapped it in layers of Saran wrap and then layers of foil and then put it in a large freezer Ziplock bag. We haven't eaten it yet, obviously, since it hasnt' been a year, but that's how my friends who froze it did it. We also moved and had it on ice for 2 days...it was solidly frozen before and seems to have been solidly frozen when we got it in our new freezer, so hopefully it's good :)

  • Something about eating year-old cake grosses me out.  I get that it can be completely fine and taste exactly the same, but it's just the mental part that I can't get over.  I guess the bigger issue though is that I straight up HATE cake...I just don't eat it, so freezing it and eating it a year later won't change for me.  We are planning to see if our baker can make our top layer cheesecake for FI and I to eat on our wedding day so that I can actually enjoy eating my own wedding cake and have the rest be traditional cake for our guests.

My sister's one year anniversary was yesterday...I haven't gotten to ask her if they ate their cake though.  Seeing as how they have a 2 week old baby, I wouldn't be surprised if they forgot about it though.  LOL.  I know they plastic wrapped the hell out of it though.
