Menu for buffet

Did you ladies create a menu when you were having a buffet dinner?
TIA

Re: Menu for buffet

  • I didn't have a buffet dinner....but I would create menus.  In my opinion, menus are mainly for guests who have to choose a meal at a table so they know what their choices are.

  • We're not doing a buffet, but as a guest, I've always prefered having a menu when I've attended weddings with buffets.

You don't necessarily need one per person; 2 per table or a big board near the escort cards or before the buffet tables works too. I like to know what choices to expect so I can fill my plate accordingly. I don't want to go light on the food in the beginning only to discover that I'm not crazy about the later choices (or vice versa). I
  • We did stations, and I didn't make menus.  I thought about it, but once they were set up, you could figure out that there was a pasta station, a carving station and a salad station pretty easily.  At the actual stations, there were menu cards that described what each item was.

I've never seen a buffet where they had menu cards on the table, but most of the buffets I've seen have been pretty standard: salad, 2 vegetables, a potato dish, rolls, and meats.  If you're doing something unexpected or have a lot of different things, it might be a good idea.

In any event, you don't have to, but if you want to, I'm sure it would be well recieved.
  • I prefer when there is a menu on the table at the beginning of the buffet line.  Sometimes I consider skipping first couple things in the buffet line and can't see what is at the end.  But no biggie if there's not one.
  • you could place food labels on each of the food trays on the buffet line so people can read exactly what they are scooping onto thier plates.....
  • We are doing menus for our buffet.  I guess I would want to know before I go up to a buffet what my options are.  I mean, what if you pick the first piece of chicken you see then you find out there is fish at the end and you would rather have that?  I guess I would just like to know in my opinion. :)

  • I think it's a nice to have but not necessary.
  • Plated dinner, we still put a menu just inside the napkin and tied it with a ribbon
