SO MANY QUESTIONS...Overwelmed

I have put my wedding on hold and am franticlly working on my daughters for September. I have never done a seating chart or escort cards. Can you direct me somewhere to learn how to do this? I understand the logic of seating people together.

Her colors are Malibu and Regency I am finding trouble finding linens in these colors. There are tons of different shades of blue but having trouble finding one that closely matches her choice of Malibu and it seems purple is purple. Help please! I need a shade of blue that is closest to Malibu.

We are expecting approximately 80 guests and will be having a buffet style meal catered. My daughter and her financee are both under 21. She is insisting no alcohol but I have explained to her she needs to have this option for her older guests. What do you think about not serving alcohol at all?

Is it really a big deal if we choose not to have the caterer cut the cake and save that $200

We are having a candy buffet as the wedding favor as guests leave. Does it need to be in her wedding colors? Like blue and purple candy?

    1. There is a seating chart function here on the knot.  I'd suggest playing around with that.  Figure out whether you're having 8 or 10 top tables and then group people together by association, family, work, etc.

    2. I had no clue Malibu meant blue

    3. Yes, I agree you should have booze, but since your daughter is under 21 I guess it's not really necessary.

    4.  $200 to cut the cake?  That seems ridiculous to me.  No, I wouldn't pay that.

    5.  Don't do the candy in the wedding colors.  People like more candy that's not blue and purple, like chocolate.

    1. escort cards--places like michaels have DIY options you can just print yourself.  Or you can find someone on etsy, they typical charge $1/ card but can vary depending on how intricate the card is. up to you and your budget.  Same with table numbers.

    2. my colors are purple, but my linens will be ivory with purple and lavender napkins.  every single aspect of the wedding does not have to be her colors, so if you can't match it, go with something more neutral and use the centerpieces, flowers, decoration to pull out the color scheme.

    3. candy bars, I like seeing the colors, but its not a must-- I also like chocolate options too, but not everyone likes chocolate so it is nice to have some nice non chocolate options.  Places like oriental trading company sell bulk candy in a variety of colors.

    For escort.cards, we are only doing a display of each table and the names that are at each table.. the caters cake cutting fee is a little pretty standard some places charge upwards of 5per person actually, but if u opted out;do u really want to cut and serve cake to that many people on ur daughters wedding? As for the candy bar, me and my fi are choosing candy we actually like.. plus we have a suspicion that color coordinated candy is usually hard and stale.

    Not trying to judge and i hope you do find what you are looking for... But your daughter is very young... Why the franticness? I'm not judging at all I'm genuinely curious why she is in such a rush.

    Slow your roll. If she is insisting no alcohol, then have no alcohol. Who is going to cut and serve the cake if the caterer isn't?

    <strong>Print cards with people's names and table numbers on them. You can get them from Michaels. Put them on a table in the entry area of the venue so people know which table to go to.  Seat familes together and friends/couples together.
    </strong>

    <strong>Honestly, get white or ivory linens, and maybe add some color with a table runner. Try smartyhadaparty.com or linentablecloth.com.   If you get linens that are all "Malibu" or "regency" it may end up looking like a can of blue paint vomited at the reception.  Those are pretty bright colors. I would encourage using them as accent colors.

    <strong>There is NOTHING wrong with a dry wedding.  The only thing that would be wrong is having liquor, and making your guests pay for it. If you decide to have alcohol, make sure you host it.  No cash bars.   If you want to have some liquor available, consider just offering beer and wine only.  But, if your daughter and her fiance don't want liquor, you should consider respecting her wishes.

    <strong>Someone needs to cut the cake.  And it shouldn't be your or any other guest. Ask the caterer to waive or reduce the cake cutting fee.  That is often open for negotiation.
    </strong>

    <strong>This is personal preference.  We didn't care if our candy matched our wedding colors. We had some chocolate choices, licorice, sour candies, etc. etc. etc.  None of them were color coordinated and we saved a fortune buying candy in bulk from costco instead of from a specialty candy store.

    Never said it was relevant. I was just wondering. She doesn't have to answer me if she doesn't want to. Was genunely curious, that's all.

    Yes my daughter is young and I have tried to talk her into waiting but that isn't going to happen so I have to support her and give her the wedding of her dreams the way she wants. Thank you all for your responses. I would never ask our guests to pay for alcohol. We will go with white table linens and use her colors to accent.

    I guess I am just worried about people's opinions and I want this day to be exactly what my daughter dreams it will be. I'm a single parent and paying for this wedding on my own and gladly doing so for my little girl. I am an organized freak and I just want to make sure everything is done in plenty of time before so I am not scrambling to get anything done.

Posted by KimandByron You are a wonderful mom for doing this for her. I am with you though that I think alcohol should be served for the of age guests. I know you want her to have a perfect wedding but you are the mom and she is not and if it is your money ultimately you get the final say. I'm a decade older than your daughter and since my parents are paying i had to give them the final say with things even in my 30's. Sonething to think about.

    But if some of the bride and grooms friends that are invited and they are under 21 with alcohol served you might be asking for trouble.
