Menu

Hey guys!
Im doing a buffett style reception should I have a menu or no? That has been my big question...

Re: Menu

  • I am having a buffet style dinner and I am not doing a menu. I might do place cards though to let everyone know what they are eating.

  • I am doing a buffet, and instead of printed out menus for each person, I am writing out the menu on a small little chalk board and putting it at the beginning of the buffet.  I am also considering writing out each item/description of item on individual small chalk boards and putting them in front of each item for people to see that they are indeed getting "macaroni and cheese made with local cheese and baked to perfection!" for example.  good luck!
  • I've never seen a menu done for a buffet reception before, so no you definitely don't have to but you can if you want.

  • It's nice when buffets have a menu on the buffet table.  Then you're not guessing what there might be down the line and can save space for what you like, or avoid certain things if you have food allergies.
  • I've seen one menu card per table for buffet before.  I've seen it without.
  • ok thanks for the input guys, because like my main concern was that people aren't going to know what was being served so i think i might place one at each table or like shauni said put it at the beginning of the buffett table.. thanks a million guys!!!
  • While menus aren't particularly necessary for a buffet, they can add a nice decorative element to your tablescape while at the same time let people know what their options are before they get up to go to the buffet.
  • i think they are nice. ive never been to a wedding with a buffet before as they arent very acceptable in my area, but i would imagine that i may skip a few things on the line waiting out for something better. if nothing better came along it would be annoying to go back on the line to get the food i missed.

  • I think you should definately have something especially if you know that you have guests with dietary restrictions.  While you know that the eggplant parm is vegetarian you're guests may not without a sign.

We have several guests with dietary restrictions and we are posting a menu on each table and marking each vegan/gluten-free item at the buffet so those guests know what to look for.
  • yeah im going to do one now because if i was attending a wedding with a buffett i would like to know what i was eating before hand that as soon i get up there and not know..thanks for the advice ladies i really appreciate it.
