Burlap on the tablecloths?

I have an idea that involves a placemat sized piece of burlap in the center of my white tablecloths. Will the burlap ruin the tablecloths? Someone told me it could ruin them by staining or putting runs in the fabric.

Re: Burlap on the tablecloths?

  • I really don't know whether or not burlap would do that, but it doesn't seem to be that rough of a fabric that it would cause runs in the table cloths. However, if you were to sew a smoother fabric onto the bottom of the burlap pieces it should eliminate any problems of staining or runs from the burlap to the table cloth.

You can safely put burlap on top of your tablecloth.  The natural burlap won't stain even if water is spilled on it.
  • Thank you for both of the comments. I appreciate it! Smile

  • I am also using burlap at my wedding and bought a yard of it to test it. I put water on it, even burned to edge just to make sure. It didn't stain. I suggest you do the same. I found this burlap roll and you can cut to the size you want plus it's a great deal.
