Small Wedding = Boring Reception?

I just realized about five minutes ago that planning a wedding with less than 50 guests invited means that there won't be many people to dance with. I've never been to a wedding that small but I know that I want an intimate wedding. What does  a reception look like with so few people? Most guests will be young, so maybe that will help out but at the same time, I'm not quite sure!

TIA!

  • I invited 60 people but I think I will probably end up with about 50.I am in the same situation! Ive talked to my friends, they are all young too, and they like the idea of a small reception and they will all be dancing! It really will be fun! Everyone will have a great time! Ive been to weddings that have a lot of people but they mostly remain seated. Your friends and family would not like you fretting over this issue! Smile

  • HA i was JUST thinking about this as well. We are inviting 80 people. I hope it's not dead and boring. lol. My advice is to have a great DJ to hype everyone into dancing. If you have a bar.... that may be the biggest help. most people dance when they are drinking. Also, make sure the lights aren't too bright. Light scares people off the dance floor! let's keep our *fingers crossed*
  • We had 75 people. Our reception lasted 6 hours and then people continued on to bars/clubs to keep having fun. I don't think the number of people dictates how much fun they'll have!
  • I went to a daytime wedding this summer with about 50 guests. Most people danced the whole time...it really depends on what kind of guests you have.

  • Including the two of us, there were 60 people at our wedding, and it was a blast...

I think the important thing is to have good music, food, and drinks.  We were worried that it would be too small for people to get up and dance but luckily we were very wrong ;)

See the Reception tab in my bio - they stayed and danced until the very end :)
  • We are having a small wedding (60 people tops); AND it's an afternoon reception!! We have a DJ and I am hoping everyone will be up and dancing.  I normally don't dance, but I will definately be dancing w/my girls.  But as my FI is always telling me "As soon as we say "I DO", nothing else matters.  He hasn't been wrong yet. :-)    Just relax and enjoy yor Day!

  • We had a smallish wedding (80 people) and honestly, no one danced because we were all running around like high schoolers.  There are distict advantages to smaller weddings and honestly all of my favorite ones were small.  The ability to talk with everyone, meet new people and not feel bad when you are monopolizing all of the time for the people that you do know makes it much more low stress and intiment for the guests.  Oh and when we did dance (I think there were about 4 songs that really had any one dancing) EVERYONE was out there which was hillarous (we did not have the best DJs).
