Cliched theme?

My fiance and I have just recently started planning our wedding but we've decided on a somewhat nautical theme.  The wedding is going to be overlooking the ocean on the coast of Maine (where my FI is from) and the colors are going to be blue and white with silver and orange (lobster-orange to be exact) accents to honor his father's profession as a lobster fisherman.  I really like how it's all shaping up but I'm starting to wonder: is blue and white nautical too common or cliched, especially for a waterfront wedding? Thanks for any advice!

I don't think so at all! :] Probably because my venue overlooks the puget sound and we are having a beach theme with blue and yellow and white :]

I Think its only cliche if its something that you have no real connection with. Since you have a deep connection to the industry, then I think its fine.

All themes are cliche, really.  If it means something to you, that's fine. 

If you're really worried about it, maybe find a way to work in the lobsterman orange with different colors that you like also.

Agree with pp who said all themes are cliche.  But hey- if you like it, go for it!  I like the nautical idea.  And because you love it, it will probably be executed beautifully.

Here in CT, it seems like you either have a beach theme (99.9%) or, like me, you're the 0.1% with NO theme.  But.. it's CT.  We like the beach here

That sounds really sweet!  We're having a seaside wedding as well and going with various shades of blue for our wedding colors.  A lot of my inspiration came from shorechic.com  They have cute favors that I'm going to make myself instead and tons of cute ideas!
