DJ vs DJ/entertainer

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if people have an opinion on this. We are interested in two different DJ companies. One of which the DJ simply does introductions and DJ's..The other one where the DJ comes with an assistant and they are more likely to rev up the crowd/lead dances, etc


Opinions? I guess I worry my wedding is older and might need that extra push to get people on the dancefloor...Perhaps a good DJ will be good enough

I would go with the first one. The other is NMS. We specifically asked our DJ to just MC and DJ (including know when to play certain songs to get/keep the dance floor packed, etc). I personally hate DJs that come out in the crowd and try to drag people to participate. One wedding we attended, the DJ ran around with hats and stupid props trying to make people wear them and do stupid dances. That stuff annoys me.

I would go with a good DJ who is a good MC. If they truly are a good DJ, they should be able to gauge your crowd and know what types of music to play and when.

ETA: Also some guests just don't like dancing and prefer to sit and socialize. That's perfectly fine, and you don't want a DJ who is going to try to force them out onto the dance floor. Not EVERY guest has to be dancing.

I had an older crowd as well.  I don't think the more aggressive DJ is any more likely to get people up and dancing and could very well just be annoying.  A good DJ knows what to do to keep the flow going.

I think a DJ/Enertainmer is more suited to a bar mitzvah than a wedding.  The people who want to dance will dance.  The people who don't want to dance won't.

If the DJ is good and the bride is out on the dance floor, people will dance.  I agree with Peavy that having paid dancers and DJ-led activities would remind me of my bar/bat mitzvah days.
