Masquerade reception ideas?

Hello! My name is Chelsea, my fiance Talasan, and I are getting married on the 21st of December 2010 and are planning a masquerade ball for the reception, not in the ceremony. Our wedding/reception site is in an old victorian house from the 19th century and we are going to help that incorporate for our theme.

What are some ideas that would work, party favors, decorations etc?

This is the site:

  • Oh yeah, our colors are red and gold, very rich and regal colors, and the centerpiecess are:

  • Are you expecting your guests to dress up in costumes?
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • I'm doing a 1940s theme for my reception and while I'd LOVE everyone to dress the part, I'm thinking no one will but maybe the bridal party.  That's ok though, I'm not going to go all controlling about this and plan to just have fun.  Maybe your favors can be those masquerade masks, and you could have them out near the door.  They might be fun/easy to make, or you could maybe find inexpensive ones at a halloween store online?  Best of luck to you on it!  It sounds like a fun evening.

[QUOTE]Should I have everyone dress up? It's a 50 people wedding and I don't want everyone buying clothes that they will only wear once, so I was just going to keep it formal.

No, you shouldn't make your guests dress up.  That was the reason for the question.  You get to decide your attire.  You get to consult with the WP and together decide on their attire.  You do not get to dictate the attire of your guests.

<div style="text-align:center;">Very true very true. I am keeping it formal, anyone have an idea on the invitations? Or better yet, the decorations for the event? I am on a very tight budget so yeah! I was thinking a bubble machine etc. What music would be good for the reception? My fiance and I love classical Mozart, the movie Amadeus actually gave us the masquerade idea, would classical music be too boring for the guests though?

  • Hi! I had a masquerade party at my house for Christmas one year, and it was SO much fun!! I had balloons everywhere, and lots of glitter, and the balloon guy painted masquerade masks on some of the balloons. Everyone dressed semi-formal and was told to wear a masquerade mask, and everyone got super involved and loved it! So I don't think it is the worst idea in the world to have people dress formally and wear masks! I had a bowl of masks by the door for anyone that forgot. We had red and green for our colors and served to signature cocktails. Anyway, this is all what we did for a Christmas party at home, so take what you will for a masquerade! Did you ever watch the movie Labyrinth - there is a masquerade scene that might be good inspiration!

Oh, you should also do feathers in your florals!
    HTH!
