Reception Music

Does everyone think it would be tacky to do my own music for the reception? I have a great sound system and it was my idea to make a playlist on my iPod and have one of my bridesmaids take care of the music and MC-ing during the reception in lieu of getting a band or a DJ. This is solely for budgetary reasons, as my fiancee and I are trying to have a ceremony and reception for 50 people for under $3000.

Re: Reception Music

  • I think if the music will only be background music, and you don't expect any dancing, then an ipod reception can work.  However, if music is important to you and you want dancing, hire a DJ who can work the crowd and change up the music as needed.
  • Not tacky at all!!! I am in the same situation. We are having a small wedding at a beach house for about 40 people. I have good music on my ipod and a nice sound system. I think the idea is great! Just need to figure out how the make different playlists of songs that would be fun for all the guests and who will be in charge of making sure some stupid Christmas song doesnt start playing and ruin the wedding vibe. If you have any suggestions let me know.

</div><div>This is what we are planning on doing as well. My DF also has a microphone, too. I am hoping that I can ask my MoH's DF to "DJ" for the event. </div><div>
</div><div>I am making up "idea Playlists" on YouTube and then I will separate the music out by "dinner" or "dance" music. I don't want to play loud music during the dinner because I want to encourage conversation. The last wedding I went to, the music was too loud to even talk around the table. </div><div>
