Riser for Band?

We're having an outdoor tent reception with a live band. I'm not sure whether or not we need a riser for the band. The band will be behind the dance floor, and I'm concerned that the band will be too close to dancing guests. The tent rental company said they've seen it done both with and without a riser. Any advice? Thanks!

Ask the band what they prefer.  I think that without a riser, the band gets lost in the crowd.

My boyfriend is a musican, and I personally think the riser is a good idea. The band will probably have mics and wires for their amps, and it keeps the crowd from either tripping over the bands equipment or even taking a shot-cut through the band's area to get somewhere.

Also, while some people enjoy feeling the music, the riser keeps the amps off the ground, and you're not feeling every bass line or drum beat.
