Beach and Winter???

Hi Everyone,
I was planning on getting married in June 2013 but my date just changed to January 2013 instead!!!  The thing is- I have planned a beach themed reception...shells, sand, the whole 9...of course indoors all along but now the wedding is in the dead of winter!!  Will this still work?  I live in upstate NY where the winter is COLD and dreary.  Any advice would really help!  My colors are aqua and gold.  Also- I was thinking of having the guys wear tan tuxes (girls are wearing aqua)...should I keep that color for the guys or have them wear black instead??  Please help..lol..

Your wedding sounds beautiful.  But, I think I would change to black tux and dial the beach back a bit since it will be winter.  I think of beach more for the summer.  Your colors will still work but maybe use flowers and candles instead of sand and shells.

  • I don't think a beach theme works when there is snow on the ground.  No reason you can't keep your colors, but as PP said, I think black tuxes work better in the winter than tan.
  • Maybe your guests will appreciate a little beach theme in the middle of winter.  I know I would when it's cold and snowy outside.
  • When I lived near the beach, I went for walks on the beach all year round, even when it was snowy.  I would do black tuxes--you can incorporate some aqua in the accessories--tan is really summery.  I would go for a beach wedding, but not a summery wedding.  You could use centerpieces with sand, votives, and shells.  As with any theme, I wouldn't overdo it--just incorporate small things into your decorations.
  • Thank you all...yea, I think if we do change it, we will do black tuxes instead.  The reason I am still doing sand/shells in the winter is because its what I've wanted for a long time.  Plus I already bought all of the stuff!  I have sooo many shells lol.  We moved up the date for many reasons but thats not the important part of my question.  It just is what it is at this point.BUT- I do agree with Mrs.Gandthebeag...some people WANT a touch of Summer to liven up the winter blues!  I think I will concentrate more on the aqua and throw some white in there too...maybe do dabs of gold here and there....it will be Beautiful no matter what...I really appreciate your comments!  : )

  • beaches do still exist int he winter. if you like that theme keep it!! the weather outside doesn't have to have any bearing on what goes on inside.
