Recommend Your Coffee Maker

Hi ladies,

What coffee pot/maker did you register for?

I have been playing around on my registry and noticed that the coffee pot we registered for has less than stellar reviews, so I'm thinking of switching.

This is the one we registered for:

Re: Recommend Your Coffee Maker

  • I hear good things about the Keureg!  We aren't coffee drinkers, so I'm no help other than the Keureg!
  • We own a Keurig - and it's nice. I don't drink coffee - but the Chai Tea is good.

FI bought one of those make your own k-cup things - so he can just use regular coffee in the keurig.

I'd switch if I were you. As a 3rd year engineering student, I am used to looking at how a device performs over time, and the reviews of this suggest that it has a really high failure rate. I read a few of the reviews, and it seems like most of the complaints deal with the fact that it simply stops working after a brief time, so I think looking elsewhere is a good idea!

As for a reccomendation, all I've got for you is that I have a perculator (so old fashioned). My dad gave it to me, and that's all he and my mom ever used for my whole life, so I guess I've inherited a weird coffe-making preference.

My sister has a Keurig, and she really loves it. I find the coffee to be a little weak for my taste. I bought her a little accessory that allows you to use your own coffee grounds with the Keurig, which I think is pretty cool. She only drinks decaf, and it's difficult to find decaf prepackaged Keurig stuff.

    Good luck!
  • I love my Keurig.  My FI does not drink coffee so a coffee pot wouldn't work well for me since I would end up drinking a whole pot.  I bought the accessory to make my own cups as well and buy a lot of grinds on clearance at target.  It is super easy and fast as well and you can make tea or hot cocoa with it as well, or just boiling water for oatmeal.

  • I have 2.
I have a Keurig and I LOVE it! I like that you can use the pre-packaged coffee or you can use any brand (like Maxwell house or if you have a grinder buy your own beans and grind them at home) and save money this way.   We only use the Keurig when it's for 1 or 2 people and we're only gonna be having a cup each.
When we have guests over we use our coffee machine.  It's a sunbeam. Like this one in stainless steel. http://www.sunbeam.com/ProductDetail.aspx?section=kitchen&pid=560
Nothing special but it does the job and I've never had any problems with it.

  • I have a Tassimo.

I also have some old school red coffee pot my uncle left us when we was staying here.

  • We use a French press, and I love it. It's simple, there's no need for filters, and the coffee tastes amazing. I thought about registering for a k-cup but I don't think we'd get enough use out of it.

  • Thanks so much for your input!! I've heard great things about the Keurig but we love to grind our own coffee beans, so I think a standard coffee maker would work best for us. I found a kind of expensive coffee machine that got great reviews, so I think I'm going to bite the bullet and register for it even though it's pricey.

  •   Just had to chime in that I'm on the Keurig train as well lol I had a mini, but it just wasn't cutting it. So now we have a bigger one that holds water and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! FI likes to grind his own coffee as well, but he has one of the Solo reusable cups. The Keurig brand of resuable cups sucks, at least in our experience. It explodes and gets coffee grounds everywhere. I use the Keurig every morning since I can turn it on as soon as I get up, go to the bathroom, and when I come out it's heated up and I just stick a cup under it and hit the button. Too freakin easy.

Otherwise, we just have a super cheap coffee pot my mom got us over a year ago. it works just fine, and we use it on the weekends when we'll both be drinking coffee. I can't remember the brand

That one from Macy's looks awesome! If we end up registering there, I'm guessing FI will be adding that lol

  • We have a french press, a stovetop espresso, a pour-over pot, and a Turkish coffee pot. We love all of them for different reasons, but none are electric. I had a Keurig in the U.S. that I got for Christmas. It was nice to have when I lived alone, b/c I could make the single cup.

  • I registered for 2. I registered for a Keurig because my FI doesn't drink coffee and I also registered for a Mr. Coffee coffee maker so when we have company over I can make a pot.
