Share ideas/pics of your reception tables

Hi ladies,
I would love to see some pics or hear a description of how your reception tables will look. We are having a buffet, so there will be no tableware, glasses, silverware etc. on our tables. I am thinking that they will look pretty plain just having an empty table with our centerpiece in the center. (I will also probably have a disposable camera on each table.) We are doing the candy table for our favors, so do not have any favors to put on the tables. Our tables will be a mix of round and rectangle. We will use white tablecloths. I am considering ordering table runners or overlays but haven't decided yet for sure. I would love to get some inspiration from all of you :)

  • I would skp the disposable cameras. In this digital age, people will take pics with their phones and digital cameras and upload them to Facebook pretty quickly for you.

We did a buffet as well. Here is how our tables looked without plates on them.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Even with a buffet, you can put silverware, glasses, and napkins at each place setting.  It's nice to do it that way so guests only have to carry a plate back from the buffet table instead of having to worry about grabbing silverware, getting water + drink of choice, etc.

I would also skip the disposable cameras.  I think it is a waste of money for you to buy and develop them.  You will get better quality photos for free when people share photos with you from their digital cameras.
  • Here is a photo of our tables.

    This is my preliminary idea:

We're using vases that we are ordering in bulk from the Dollar Tree.  With the 7.5" one we are making table numbers by wrapping vellum paper around them, and putting a battery tea light inside:

Around the table number we are having three 4" hurricane vases each filled with water and a single floating daisy.  We will probably incorporate small tea lights and possibly some flower petals as well.  The best part is that we will only spend around $8 a table tops and we can reuse the vases :)

I would skip the disposables also, as others have mentioned. You can set up a website or email account where people can email their digital photos to you.  The disposables will often get lost and are expensive to develop.  And almost everyone has an iphone or digital camera these days, and the quality of those photos are much better than the disposables.

Our setup sounds similar to what you are doing. We had a candy/cookie buffet as favors and we also had open seating, so no favors or place settings at the tables.  We also did a buffet and the plates and silverware were up by the buffet.  I was worried out tables would look empty too, but it took about 5 minutes after everyone sat down and they didn't look empty anymore.

Here are ours. Hope it helps.

And two more... tables with a few of our guests sitting at it... doesn't look empty anymore.

  • We are also planning to have napkins, silverware and water bottle already on the tables for our outdoor buffet wedding. Someone always forgets to get their silverwareat buffets so it made sense to us. We thought about putting down chargers but decided most of the people would think they were big plates and bring them to the buffet, so we're skipping that!

We did a buffet and our tables were set with everything but the plates, and then I also had champagne bottle favors at the table.

If you have the budget for it, you could also do chargers.  We did them for our head table only and I loved them and really wished I had done them on all the tables.

    HTH.
  • We had a buffet as well, but had the silverware, linen napkins and water goblets on the table. Our tables had white linens, with a black overlay and then I made table runners. There were flowers & candles as well. They didn't look bare at all. I had menus at each place setting, wrapped with the napkin and a napkin "ring" I made.

That way all the guests had to carry to their seat was their plate.
