Need Lunch food ideas for reception!

My fiance and I are getting married in October and decided to have our wedding at 11am and having a lunch type reception. Any ideas on the food we should have served? When I think of eating at this time of day, I think of sandwiches and veggie trays. I want something more "elegant" than that if you will... Any ideas would sure help me out ALOT!

Thanks. :)

  • When I hear brunch, I think of an omelet station and Belgian waffle station, bacon, sausage, some kind of potatoes, pastries, fruit, plus some lunch options.  Are you  hiring a caterer?  I'm sure they would have a brunch menu or ideas for you.

  • I've been to weddings at that time of day with both breakfast and lunch items.

I've also been to weddings at that time of day with filet of beef cut at your table.

Really you can do anything you want.  People generally eat whatever is put infront of them.  If the meal is heavier than they normally would eat, they just have a lighter meal at dinner.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Brunch is mainly breakfast food with a few lunch type items thrown in. Omelets, waffles, etc are common brunch menu items at most restaurants.
  • 11am ceremony meaning food after 12 is not brunch IMO.  I would do lunch.  A friend of mine did pizza and I liked that.  I tried different pizzas I normally would not order in fear of not liking and wasting money.
2 of us- a bunch of you! Celebrating the whole night through!
  • Yea I guess it would be lunch. Either way. Thanks for the suggestions.
  • Tea sandwiches or wraps (tuna, chicken salad, veggies, chicken ceasar); omelet station; breakfast potatoes; scrambled eggs; quiche; bagels and danish; baked ham or roast beef carving station; French toast or waffles; muffins and scones; some kind of light chicken or fish entree in a chafing dish; lox; fresh fruit; penne pasta station; sausage and bacon; crepes; frittata; yogurt with toppings; croissants; silver dollar pancakes; coffee and tea, assorted juices, water, Bloody Marys, mimosas

  • At that time of day, you could do anything  you want -- go light and casual with sandwich type things, go formal with filet mignon, choose a buffet brunch with breakfast and lunch items... Honestly you can't go wrong at that time of day with anything, but to me "elegant" would be a full sit-down meal with dinner type entrees.
  • Thanks! I think we've figured out what we;re gunna do! :)
