Centerpieces

Are they really needed?

My FI and I want to eat family style because it's a small guest list and we want our two families to come together.
I feel like centerpieces would just get in the way.
Is anyone else eating family style? What are you doing about centerpieces?

Thanks!

Re: Centerpieces

  • I think low centerpieces would work fine -- like a low glass bowl with floating candles or something.  People probably won't pass things over the center of the table anyway, but rather around the sides.  Having something low would at least allow people to see each other, talk, and ask to have food passed to them.

  • I saw a really pretty centerpiece idea that really just involved colored stock paper cutouts that linked together and a lacy underlay, with the food as the centerpiece on something that looked like a cake pedestal...I wish I could ifind that for you, OP!!

If you're doing family style, maybe you could either find or DIY some beautiful trivets/hotpads to place the dishes on?

  • We did family style at our wedding and we did centerpieces. The reception hall had some options for us to pick from. One was an jumbo sized brandy style glass that we put a unscented ivory pillar candle into & then put glass beads at the bottom of the glass in the colors of our wedding. The glass was then set on top of a round mirror with a few glass beads spread on the mirror. It was simple, clean, nice & the candles added a nice warm glow to the room. They were low enough for guests to see each other for easy conversation.
  • Thanks for the input! I'll start looking at low/short options :]

I'm a big fan of low square vases stuffed with flowers. There are so many cute ideas for long tables, I wish my site had those instead of round tables.
