reception scavenger hunt

FI and I decided months and months ago that we wanted to do a little scavenger hunt during the "cocktail hour". there will also be food, drinks, and croquet during this time. We have a bit of a Muppet theme in our wedding. Our guests will be "scavenging" for 6 different muppet figurines (Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Gonzo, Animal, and Rizzo).

I am leaning towards putting a card at every place with 6 different riddles and when they solve the riddle and find the muppet, they can write in the name of which muppet they found. (rather than one clue leads to the next which leads to the next). There won't be any prizes- it's just for fun.

So I need to figure out where to put them so they are easy enough to find with the clues but not right out in the open.

I know that MIss PIggy will be on the cake table somewhere (1/5 of our cupcakes are Kermit faces) and Gonzo will be near my seat (because I'm a weirdo like him).

Suggestions on cute places to hide them? Anyone any good at writing scavenger hunt clues that wants to throw some ideas out for clues? Or know a good resource for doing this?

TIA!

Re: reception scavenger hunt

  • Please don't do this.  A scavenger hunt is something that you do for a ten year old's b-day party not a wedding reception.  Very few people will participate and if you try to make it mandatory they will seriously side eye you.

  • I.....am confused.  I don't think I see the point of the game.  People will have a great time just eating, drinking, and catching up with friends and relatives they haven't seen in a while.  And if there are no prizes, what's the point?  (I am not suggesting you should include prizes; I'd just scratch the idea entirely).

Agreed. Adults can entertain themselves at events.
  • I'm one of the "very few people" who would enjoy participating in your scavenger hunt. If this fits your personalities and wedding style, why not go for it. You know your guests and will have a much better idea of whether they would enjoy it. I think of Kermit near the guest book, and Animal near the DJ or band.

  • Sorry but I cringe at games at weddings.  They're for kids birthday parties.

  • I think this is a cute idea if it suits your personality and if your guests are just as fun as you must be! Some people may not want to join in, but that doesnt matter, becuase the guests who do im sure will have fun! and it would definetly be a talking point for years to come! I think there is too much emphasis on what a wedding day should look like and be! Its your wedding day, so it should be what you want it to be!! So, totally Animal by the band/DJ, Rizzo could be hiding by a door or a wall..cos he is a rat haha! and fozzie could be near the food! Have fun!!
  • I like the idea, too.  It's great for the kids at the wedding, and for those adults who don't do the whole social thing, but still would like to do something.

Will your reception have anything with plants/water?  You could put Kermit there.  Animal should be near the music.  Fozzie should be where ever the most people are going to hang out (guest book, dance floor, etc), and Rizzo can be near the food (cheese :)

I agre with NOLA, Hoboken, and GLB your wedding reception is not the place to have a scavenger hunt. I take my dog out on Halloween to do a doggie scavanger hunt, but if my friend wanted me to do one at her wedding reception I wouldn't participate and side eye the shii out of it.
