Rent or Buy?

I'm not sure if I want to rent or buy my table linens. Buying them would only be $40 more then if I were to rent them and then I could sell them after as long as no one spills anything on them, but im not sure if anyone would be willing to buy them. So im not sure if it'll be worth it.
what do you ladies think??

Re: Rent or Buy?

  • I guess it depends on how much time/effort you want to devote to selling "stuff" after your wedding.

My DD was going to sell her CP materials (hurricanes, stones, mirrors, silk petals) after her wedding last July.  Yep-they're still in boxes in my basement.

For me, the $40 extra to buy, plus the effort of boxing/selling after my wedding wouldn't be worth it.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • maybe you should look on craigslist or something and see if anyone else is selling something similar, and how much they're charging. That might give you an idea of whether or not it would be useful.
Also, if you decide to buy and then sell, just get them professionally cleaned and they'll be like new!!
  • My future M-I-L gave me the idea of actually making our linens out of fitted sheets by tapering the ends and sewing ribbons around the bottom to match our colors. Sheets would be about $5 each. Or I did find this site which I believe we are going to order ours from, but they are lace, and they are under $4 each. It matches our wedding because we're doing vicotorian.

(you have to search for tablecloth and it will come up)

You can also look for the tableclothes that are called "Just like linen." They look and feel like linen, but actually aren't, they can be thrown away or reused and are usually cheaper. Hope this helps!

  • It may be more work for you in the long run to buy, even though it may make you some money.  Think about laundering the linens, pressing them etc. before the reception and after! Is that worth the money?
  • I debated the same thing. I didnt want to take the time to press them myself and to have them done professionally would just add to the cost. Plus after its over you have to have them cleaned and pressed again. A lot more trouble in my opinion but if youre on a strick budget and will take the time to sell them I would definitely say just buy them and get some money back.
  • Thanks everyone! I think I'll just rent.
