DIY Reception Food

We are getting married in late October at 4:00.  The Reception will start around 5:00.  Is it ok to ask your guests to stop by after the reception for coffee and cake?  We will have a few snack foods, but I can't really afford to supply a dinner for everyone.

Re: DIY Reception Food

  • For 5 p.m., people will be hungry for dinner. I would have a 2 p.m. reception, or maybe an 8 or 9 p.m. reception, and adjust your ceremony time accordingly.

Otherwise, if you want to stick to a 5 p.m. reception, find a way to offer dinner.

  • Coffee and cake is fine, but you need to do it at a non-meal time.  Move your ceremony up to 2 and your reception to 3.  Then people will be finishing up and can head to dinner at 5-6.

Like pp's I'm not quite sure what you're saying here.
If you are having a wedding at 4pm you need to serve a full dinner to everybody.
  • How many people & what budget?
