Black and White Fall Wedding?

Our wedding is going to be in the fall at a golf course. I would love to do a black and white wedding, but am worried that it doesn't really "go" with the setting and the time of year - any thoughts??

  • You don't have to have a "fall" theme just because you're getting married in the fall.  Just choose whatever colors you love.  If you want black and white, go for it!  It's very classic and great any time of year.

  • Without seeing the place, it's hard to say. Are you doing it indoors? Outdoors? What time of day/night are you doing?

If it's outdoors and during the day, I would say it would go quite nice. Outdoors at night might be a little dark unless the place is extremely well lit.

Indoors concerns would be how much ivory is there? Are you going to have additional accent colors? Indoors at night would be fine, but during the day might be a little dark.

Since it's a fall wedding, you could easily do fall colors. A friend of mine used autumn leaves instead of rose petals for the ceremony, which was outdoors, and then had some autumn leaves on the dinner tables. The ones on the table were fake, but it added a really nice touch. I feel that black and white goes best in winter weddings, but I've seen it done in the middle of summer, too.

  • Thank you both! It's going to be indoors - it's like an "open air" place. The walls are all huge windows that are open from the floor to ceiling  (if the weather is nice). It's going to be in the evening - the reception will start around 6:00 I think (haven't nailed the time down yet)  I love the idea of black and white and am basing the idea around a Cameo necklace that my grandma gave to me.. I have switched colors like three times already and really like black and white! Decisions!

  • We never considered a color scheme other than black and white.  It was FI's idea and I loved it.  We're getting married in April, but I really think it works any time of year.  The best thing about it is you don't have to become one of those bride's who's pulling out her hair trying to make everything the exact shade of chartruese: black is black and white is white.  Makes it really easy to coordinate everything.

Most black and white weddings incorporate some sort of accent color, so if you really, really wanted to tie in the season, you could accent with a nice autumnal shade of red, orange, or gold.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I did a black/silver/purple wedding in October.  No one panicked or died. :)
  • I am that bride pulling her hair out trying to match the perfect shade of blue.

Save yourself the hassle while being extremely classy, Black and white is perfect no matter what season.

Also something to think about, if your wedding surrounds the time when the leaves are changing you will have natural colors as an accent.  If you are feeling you need a pop of color, mother nature is suppling it for you.  How easy is that! I'm jealous!
  • felicia - thank you! I originally wanted blue and brown - but if everything wasn't the exact same shade of blue it would have made me crazy - I do feel like black and white would be great and am loving the idea more and more after reading all of these posts!
