Centerpieces... what are you doing?!

I'm thinking about steering away from traditional floral centerpieces... I have a couple ideas in mind but I need more!

I'm just curious what you are thinking for centerpieces :)

I want to be a little different as well so I am using a lot of candle for my centerpieces.  I have a tall cylinder vase with crstals and a single submerged rose with water and a floating candle surrounded by 3 shorter cylinder vases with crystals and rose petals submerged and a floating candle.  All of that will be on a round mirror that is surrounded by these 3 inch round candle holders with votives in some and rose buds in some (alternating)  The table  with will be sprinkled with rose petals and crystals.

  • The thought of paying for floral arrangements for 20 tables makes faint, so I think I've come up with a nice alternative that will also be meaningful.  I'm combing through my parents' and my FIL's photo albums and finding complementary photos of FI and I throughout the years (eg. him rolling out sugar cookies as a little boy and me stirring a mixing bowl as a little girl).  I'll be having enlargements made, perhaps in black & white, and using inexpensive silver frames to display a photo of each of us along with an engagement photo of us both on each table.  I may have a fourth frame holding a quote, song lyric, or Scripture verse on love/marriage.  Add a few votive candles ringing the photo display, and tah-dah!  Each table will be different, and I'm hoping this will encourage guests to circulate to look at the photos and spark conversation.
"Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine!" (Isaiah 43:1)

Very cute Nickie!!!! And yes I have 22 tables for just our guests, so an all floral decor would have been physically painful lol

I think this is a very creative idea.  Good job!
  • We are using tall votive candle holders and fabric squares in our wedding colors. I got the tall votive candle holders at DT (picture below) and one of my BM's made the fabric squares for me. We will likely decorate them with some rose petals or little crystal stones and we might have the candle holders placed on mirror tiles that our venue provides for free.

< - - item number 977007 at dollartree.com, we will use one of each height at each table
  • For 1/2 the tables, I collected candle sticks from our various relatives along with some that my aunt and I have collected from Ross, etc. We are going to have ivory candles in them. Something like this but with glass holders and no flowers.

Then the other 1/2, will be silk orchids in a tall vase of water.  I did want fresh originally becuase they last so beautifully but the color was out of season. Something like this:

  • we're doing an ivory candlebra in the middle of each long table, then 2 birch vases on each side with candles throughout. it's a DIY project and it's been a lot less than what the florist quotes were.
  • We did cyclindrical vases with a submerged rose at the bottom and a floating candle on top. I placed them on square mirrors and scattered some artificial rose petals around them and down the length of the dinner tables.
  • We are doing 3 cylindar vases with pillar candles and scattered rose petals on 1/2 the tables and a tall cylindar curly willow ceterpiece on half with a few votives candles.  Currently debating on whether or not to put some calla lillys in with the curly willow as that is what the bouquets will be.

  • We are doing like a shallow round bowl on a square mirror.  The bowl will be filled with red and clear beads (forlack of better words) and led lights on the bottom with floating candles and rose petals.  There will also be rose petals scattered around the mirror...well this is my vision at least.  If momzilla has her way, it will be a hurricane wrapped with ribbon with a candle in the center, and 3 votives...all placed on top of a mirror and some artsy thing she created.  Basically I hate hurricanes, and the artsy thing she made...so I'm hoping I get my centerpieces.

  • I am doing a centerpiece with tall square vases (16") with ribbon in my colors (dark teal) around the top of the vase. I'm putting a bundle of curly willow in and will be tying crystals to the branches with beading wire. I also have bought about 50 mums from my florist to put at the opening of the vase for about 40 dollars. Around the vases I am putting votives with candles that are black and white that I found at ikea. For the table number we are using engagement photos with numbers photoshopped on and putting them on easels, also from ikea (only 99 cents a piece) I spray painted these black and added a rhinestone embellishement on the front and center of it. I hope it all turns out like I planned it in my head. The flowers on the vases are definitely optional. Good luck!

  • We are having a mix of high and low centerpieces. This is the inspiration for the low centerpeices, except with round tables. The flowers will be white, cream, and blush garden roses.

The high centerpieces will have a tall arrangement of white and blush hydrangeas with phalaenopsis orchids cascading down and little sattelite arrangements around the base that are like the ones in the inspiration pic. The tall centerpieces will have pinspots instead of candles. The flowers throughout the wedding are going to be white, cream, blush, and pale apricot garden roses, hydrangeas, orchids, and calla lilies.
  • Why not by them in bulk online, I know how risky it can be, but, It is what I am going for! I figure with the cost of labour through a florist I can get all the flowers I need, and with help from family, the tables will look great! I love fresh flowers.
  • Fish for sure.
    Just kidding...
We are doing little bowls with floating candles...very simple.

  • We are doing three tall vases -different sizes- one will have green hydrangeas submerged, the tallest one will have fake pears, the smallest one will have a floating candle. We have longer tables so we will have votives scattered throughout the tables.

  • Great ideas ladies!!! everyone seems to have something different in mind!!

Nickie, I looove your idea about the pictures, I am leaning toward the idea of using sticks/branches and was thinking of hanging candles from the branches but I may have to incorporate the idea of hanging some wallet sized framed photos too :)

  • We have a stackable three layer dish. On the top dish we are going to do a beautiful flower arrangement and candles. then on the other two bottom dishes, we are going to put assorted pastries such as... mini cupcakes, mini brownies, bit size cheese cake, chocolate covered strawberries. so the guest can enjoy a little bit of every dessert and then we will have the cake later.

  • We are doing a mixture of round and rectangular tables.  On the rounds will be 29" tall large cylinder vases with purple orchids and curly willow submerged in water with votives around it.

On the rectangle will be shorter rectangular vases with curly willow and purple orchids in them and votives again.  Very simple and pretty cost effective.

  • Since our reception is tapas style, we have a ton of coffee tables, patio tables and high top tables so we are keeping it super simple. Our colors are lime and mango and I got ivory floaters instead.

  • Im using fairly tall vases over 12 inches, then putting sticks in them to look like trees, then im ethier going to fill with colorful rocks or sand or wrap in tulle. Then from the branches im hanging green hearts from clear string and i also cut t-p rolls in equal sections spray painted them green and attached them to clear string to.So it looks like leaves and hearts. Our theme trees =)
